So there I was having a peaceful Saturday lunchtime.
Now I’m on the any answers telephone line trying to convey a message that it’s not just religious parents who object to current trends in LGBT education in schools ...
Thankfully didn’t get through so West Yorkshire police can concentrate on chasing criminals not mums for awhile
I would like to say to them that the debate about being gay or bisexual is now fairly settled and it’s usually only parents with religious beliefs who object to education that presents being gay or bisexual as normal.
In contrast different groups are jostling for control of the debate over whether children should be able to consent to treatment that will fundamentally alter their body. At the moment it seems the people with the greatest influence are groups led by parents who presided over the so-called transition of their own children and so now have a very personal position to defend. For that reason we simply aren’t ready to ask teachers to present information about this in schools
