When I speak, my use of pronouns refers to the sex of the person, not the gender. Soooooo, never happens to me.

Whatisthisfuckery · 20/03/2019 16:40

I don’t want to read Everyday Misogyny.

VickyEadie · 20/03/2019 16:41

I'm referring to sex when I use pronouns, so I cannot "misgender" anyone.

VickyEadie · 20/03/2019 16:42

Anyone wanting to be spared having to read the link - it references rapey Riley...

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/03/2019 16:42

Is this one of those screen grab threads?

Today ds1 had home ec and made some raspberry muffins in accordance with bunbury's recipe.
I was so sure they contained Vanilla but he was adamant they didn't.
Reader: it was white chocolate.

TurboTeddy · 20/03/2019 16:43

I noticed the webinar on internalised whiteness and thought wtf?
Got as far as realising the video was by Riley J "cotton ceiling" Dennis and knew I didn't need to waste my time.
Although Riley's bio underneath is quite something, wasn't sure if it was woke satire!

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 20/03/2019 16:43

Pronouns refer to sex, not gender identity. I couldn't care less what someone's gender identity is, just as I don't wish to make an issue of my own, and as such accept female pronouns even though I don't 'feel' female or adhere to feminine stereotypes. People make all sorts of assumptions about me because I am of the female sex class. It is impossible to control how other people perceive you, it cannot be coerced. I don't mind using someone's preferred pronouns so long as they are polite and respectful about it, I won't be bullied into, and don't believe people should be prosecuted on account of accurately using the pronouns which refer to another's sex.

Even wokey ol' YouTube has peaked....

As the kids say, peep the comments.

Jaxhog · 20/03/2019 16:49

An act of violence!! This makes me so angry!!!

I've been misgendered ALL MY LIFE. It's a experience most, if not all, real women have. It's the price of living and working in a mainly patriarchal society. I didn't get all hot under the collar about it, so don't see why they should. As 'former 'men, they were almost certainly part of the problem. To bleat about it now is beyond CFery.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 20/03/2019 16:52

Please don’t give Everyday Misogyny the traffic. Pile of bile.

BickerinBrattle · 20/03/2019 16:56

So if something that doesn’t cause physical injury = violence, what is the new word for the thing people do where with their own bodies or with weapons they cause physical injury to someone?

Because, as with the word “women,” I think we still need a word to describe what’s being obscured by language change. That sounds particularly true with law, where the use of “acts creating physical injury, formerly known as violence” affect the charging and punishment of crime.

Though here we see the intent: as with the word “women” the intent is to change the application of law without going through any pesky procedures via Parliament or Congress. Redefine “violence” to include the use of words — and oh my goodness just look how many can be jailed! With no one voting on anything.

FyiYolo · 20/03/2019 16:58

I can't listen to people who use a put on voice. It makes me start to gag!?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 20/03/2019 16:59

So misgendering someone is an act of violence

So those you have called me sir or man in the past have committed an act of violence against me?

What about when people in restaurants say 'hey guys' that's misgendering me isnt it

If i call dh a girl tonight can i be done for domestic abuse?

I dont mind using people's pronouns...in the main, there probably are exceptions to be fair

stillathing · 20/03/2019 16:59

Perhaps to avoid causing /committing offence we should all use they /their for everybody. Otherwise too much police time is going to be taken up. After all if pronouns DO refer to gender identity rather than sex, think how many gender critical people are being misgendered constantly?

Pinkbells · 20/03/2019 17:08

What a load of poppycock (sorry poppyfanny)

JaneEyre07 · 20/03/2019 17:08

Nope, read it. Still don't give a shit.

Sorry.

I've got better things to be worrying about.

R0wantrees · 20/03/2019 17:09

Magdalen Berns has been dealing with R J Dennis for a long time.

2016
'Riley, You Are Not A Lesbian - Not A Feminist Either'

2017
'RE: "Are genital preferences transphobic?" Give it up, Riley!'

2018
'Re: What is a TERF?'

2018
'#RapeyRiley destroyed on rape culture within 2 mins.'

2017
'Riley Dennis Sounding Like a Cult Preacher (Again)'

2016
'Answering: Should We Say "Gold Star" Or "Platinum" Gay?'

Flowers Magdalen best wishes & thanks for all youve done to raise awareness of these issues. I was really lucky to find your youtube site early on!

Aeroflotgirl · 20/03/2019 17:14

An act of violence, what crap, they should look up the definition of violence.

en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/violence none of the Oxford dictionary definitions fits, sorry. Just another example of how non trans women are being shat at from a great height. They have no idea of violence.

I will put these stats by Woman's Aid right here

www.womensaid.org.uk/information-support/what-is-domestic-abuse/domestic-abuse-is-a-gendered-crime/

AuntieCJ · 20/03/2019 17:14

Good grief.

Barracker · 20/03/2019 17:20

What's your opinion, OP?

JustHereForASec · 20/03/2019 17:30

I had a book on "non-violent communication" by Marshall Rosenberg. It that where this has sprung from does anyone know?

PocaMiseria · 20/03/2019 17:41

I've just had a little scroll down the comments under the video on YouTube and had a jolly good laugh at all the commentators saying things like
" Bro, you can't just change the definition of a word to suit your narrative.",
"Misgendering is not violence, dude." and
"I''m starting to think this guy is just a troll"
and
"Why is the guy in this video wearing girl clothes?"

Sorry, I'm sure this makes me a very bad person.....

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/03/2019 18:03

fucking hell

I had to click through THIS to get to the article
