I’ve not been but seen this tweet

MxcMxrcxs
@DifferentMarcas
According to people tweeting from the big government LGBT
conference, there's going to be an announcement later today about what's happening with the GRA reform. I can't say I'm optimistic about it being good news.

Greg Owen
@Greg0wen
#LGBTNatCon19 the update on the Gender Recognition Act. To paraphrase “It’s important, we had an extraordinary response, we’ll look at it properly later in the year.”

That was it! 🤦‍♂️

Greg Owen uses quote marks. I don't know how accurately this represents the minister's words, but"

“We are far from slowing down or rowing back on the #GRA. We are absolutely committed to pushing it forward. I don’t know where these Chinese whispers have started. We are committed.” From @SusanBaroness at #LGBTNatCon19 *this appears to be a Twitter led muddying of the waters.

EverardDigby · 18/03/2019 12:45

It would be interesting to know the balance of attendees there....

Daughterofmabel · 18/03/2019 12:47

We are absolutely committed to pushing it forward
oh dear thats depressing

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 18/03/2019 12:50

I don't know how to do tweet embedding but here's one:
Baroness Williams announces £12 million for UKAid to end LGBTI discrimination around the world #LGBTNatCon19

And to paraphrase, there's to be a conference next year in Britain for Commonwealth countries to get on the same page.

Which IMO is a good thing, since Britain's Victorian colonial legislation has helped fuck things up in countries around the world, particularly by making sex between men criminal, and between women invisible.

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 18/03/2019 12:53

But apparently this conference isn't the centre of wokeness that you might expect:

Jonesy @Ms_Bathory
@WomenEqualities #LGBTNatCon19 the people coming in not understanding what to write under "my pronouns are" and questioning why it's there is kinda worrying

Melroses · 18/03/2019 12:54

I get the impression, from the Ruth Hunt appointment and the list of the advisory panel members www.gov.uk/government/news/government-appoints-first-national-adviser-for-lgbt-health

and the bizarre video on intersex/DSD produced by an LGBT+ organisation, tweeted on the Womens & Equalities account twitter.com/WomenEqualities/status/1107583699498004480

and Penny Mordaunt's complete failure to answer any Mumsnet questions coherently

that instead of critical thinking or understanding of what is happening out here, that there is much doubling down in the face of opposition going on in that Govt department.

Fingers in ears.

MeAgainAgain · 18/03/2019 12:59

The idea that all L G or B are automatically fully up on current wokeness and on board with it is something I find worrying.

These are people who happen to be L G or B and will have a range of political views, levels of engagement with political stuff, a range of levels of and agreement with current gender ideas and so on.

To assume they will all be lefty on trend genderists is kind of homo/bi/lesbo phobic to my mind. Not individuals but a hive mind due to a label (fact) about them that is not related?

ThePurportedDoctoress · 18/03/2019 13:14

To assume they will all be lefty on trend genderists is kind of homo/bi/lesbo phobic to my mind.

Absolutely. The way this whole thing has been outsourced to Stonewall and other trans activists says a lot about the Conservative party, and there are people in Whitehall who are happy to exploit the myopia.

And on that point - what the fuck is the Equalities Office doing tweeting about intersex?

Melroses · 18/03/2019 14:16

twitter.com/FeministRoar/status/1107643465897332741

This was the tweet on the new advisory panel that I failed to find earlier.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 18/03/2019 14:34

Why is FeministRoar referring to Jayne Ozanne as a 'male person'? She is a female.

Melroses · 18/03/2019 16:21

twitter.com/FeministRoar/status/1107643525758361601

This is the second part of that tweet.

I can't see Jayne Ozanne mentioned? Is she one of the 3 'don't knows'?

PencilsInSpace · 18/03/2019 16:27

Baroness Williams' speech:
www.gov.uk/government/speeches/baroness-williams-lgbt-conference-2019-speech

This morning, I want to start with the Gender Recognition Act.

We have seen fierce debate on this issue in recent months. And it’s right that the Government has listened to every one of those views.

The consultation has now concluded, and around 100,000 people have responded to the consultation. It was an extraordinary response and we are currently analysing the results. We intend to respond on the consultation later this year.

As we always have done, we continue to urge an environment of respect and courtesy as we continue to look at this issue.

As the Minister for Equalities I believe it’s important that we look forward and work towards building a more accepting and understanding society.

DodoPatrol · 18/03/2019 16:31

'a more accepting and understanding society' still segregated by sex not gender where needed. That'd be just fine.

OrchidInTheSun · 18/03/2019 16:40

I don't know why FR thinks she's trans. Possibly because it seems slightly unbelievable that Mordaunt has found so many lesbians who throw the word TERF around with gay abandon? All she needs now is Grace Petrie and she's got house

Melroses · 18/03/2019 16:45

I think that bit has gone - she certainly can throw the word 'terf' around. Seems a strong advocate against gay conversion therapy. Is this a thing outside Christian fundamentalist circles? I never heard of it in the outside world except in relation to the USA Christian fundamentalists?

OvaHere · 18/03/2019 16:47

Why is FeministRoar referring to Jayne Ozanne as a 'male person'? She is a female.

Whenever I see this name written down my mind immediately goes to Jane Fae because of the similarity between Ozanne and Fae's deadname. I know they are completely different people but it's like a mental word association thing.

Maybe she does the same.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 18/03/2019 16:50

I can't see it anymore Melroses, but Jayne Ozanne uses the word t*rf so it's pretty clear where she stands. Some Christian.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 18/03/2019 16:52

Ova I thought that too, and it was in reference to her appearance on Big Questions, which regularly features Fae.

loveyouradvice · 18/03/2019 17:26

Erm..... why is the government funding a LGBT conference??? Have they EVER funded a women's one?

theOtherPamAyres · 18/03/2019 17:27

Have they got a session on Autogynephilia?

I've seen somewhere that it's considered a sexual orientation now.

It's one that is exclusive to males and should not be confused with gender dysphoria. The autogynephiles are sexually turned on by fantasies of themselves as women - hence the view that it an orientation.

I would consider it to be a topic ripe for honest discussion in an LGBT panel, wouldn't you?

Lumene · 18/03/2019 18:32

We are far from slowing down or rowing back on the #GRA. We are absolutely committed to pushing it forward. I don’t know where these Chinese whispers have started. We are committed.” From @SusanBaroness at #LGBTNatCon1

I believe it was a P Mordaunt who recently whispered to a mumsnet webchat that they would be merely making ‘tweaks’ to the GRA, Baroness.

Would screenshot and paste as a reply if I had a working twitter account at the moment.
