Actual scientists talking about it and it's affect on transgender athletes.

Just listening to this and came here to find a thread.

MsMcWoodle · 14/03/2019 16:50

Two men discussing - muddling trans and intersex - mention puberty and then ignore its effects.
I cannot say how much I hate the BBC.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/03/2019 16:50

What did they say....

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 14/03/2019 16:50

Just found it!

LarryGreysonsDoor · 14/03/2019 16:50

They seem to be dancing around the topic somewhat.

FleetsumNJetsum · 14/03/2019 16:50

Dr Adam Rutherford BBC Inside Science. Only seem to be talking about testosterone so far.

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 14/03/2019 16:52

10% better, hey? Only in norms, mind you, not athletes...

LarryGreysonsDoor · 14/03/2019 16:52

There seems to be much confusion of trans and intersex.

GassyAss · 14/03/2019 16:52

It does seem a bit woolly.

OP posts:
MillytantForceit · 14/03/2019 16:53

Primarily about the Semenya Case.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/03/2019 16:53

it makes me annoyed this idea that sport is unfair so hey, lets make it unfairer.

qumquat · 14/03/2019 16:53

He is being very cautious. 'if we wish to be 'ultra fair' to women's as if women are asking for too much fairness!
Presenter 'it is quite clear that the science is very complicated' no it isn't!!!!!

LarryGreysonsDoor · 14/03/2019 16:53

Well that was a big lot of nothing.

FleetsumNJetsum · 14/03/2019 16:54

pretty shit really

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 14/03/2019 16:54

Testosterone positive and testosterone negative? Is he trying to say male and female?

qumquat · 14/03/2019 16:54

That was very wet and woolly. Apparently scientists on 'both sides' are selective with their data. Has everyone forgotten what sex is?!?!?!

Fazackerley · 14/03/2019 16:58

That was infuriating

Women have testosterone between .5 and 3 so we've set it at 5

Confused
MsMcWoodle · 14/03/2019 17:09

I've complained already. So sick of this. Can't any at the BBC face a counter view? FPFW could have made mincemeat of that.
No mention of why transmen aren't cleaning up in male sport. Rubbish.

Fazackerley · 14/03/2019 17:11

I think it was the amused tone that made me so furious. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING???

LarryGreysonsDoor · 14/03/2019 17:34

Why did they have a man in to speak on this? Are they honestly saying that they couldn’t find a single female expert?
He was a professor of women’s health I believe.

maslinpan · 14/03/2019 17:37

And why not clarify the many other biological differences - average weight, height, lung capacity etc - that are in play.
It's not just testosterone that has an impact, FFS!

LarryGreysonsDoor · 14/03/2019 17:46

They did touch on height a little.
But what about being socialised as male. Being encouraged into sports far more than girls?

FleetsumNJetsum · 14/03/2019 17:53

So angry, this is the BBC responding with a na na na na boo boo. Because last week I got so sick and tired of RM being invited to talk about the science of sport on the BBC and pretending to be a scientist that I complained to the BBC "can't you find a real scientist to talk about this?"

They have answered with wooly "scientists on both sides" crap. Actually, science does not have sides. It deals in reality. How 'bout some reality, BBC, not obfuscation?

Angryresister · 14/03/2019 17:54

I think it was said that that there was no proof that extra testosterone would not lead to men having a superior advantage over women, but there was something right at the beginning said about a spectrum !!!! Much too much about intersex and problem of intersex person competing. Utter waffle...eg opposing sides of argument having equal weight ...grr

FleetsumNJetsum · 14/03/2019 18:06

My DH just quoted Bob Badour: Science has as much use for sides as an internal combustion engine has for a foreskin."

Bring out the science.
