Great article, and very necessary in light of the onslaught against trans people from all angles (government, media, etc). There is no unfair advantage for women who are trans in sports, after being on HRT for a while. Muscle mass drastically decreases and muscle structure changes, hemoglobin levels in the blood are reduced, etc.

Canards about "bone density" are just a weak smokescreen to justify discrimination - if bone density was what actually created an "unfair advantage" (it doesn't), wouldn't the people whining about it also be clamoring to separate sports by race, given the massive bone density differences between different races?

Stuff that red herring nonsense, no one is wailing that it's so mean to separate sexes for sport and no need to do it because bone density imaginary pseudo science bollocks. No one is arguing that men and women's sports are made into one single competitive group.

This is purely about the political ideology that TWAW.

If you don't share in that interesting belief, then you perceive TW as men and it is absolutely reasonable, and in line with science, reality, to perceive them as men. Men and women do not compete together in sport. End of conversation.

A lot of comments on the tweet said that it's ok because the athletes are tested for testosterone levels and any one with too high a level will not be allowed to compete. Apart from the fact that there is a LOT more to it than just present testosterone levels, this testing only goes on in the top levels of competing.

If trans kids are free to compete with girls and young women throughout their school years and on into the amateur sporting leagues (where there is no testing), born females athletes are going to loose out and potentially drop out of a career that would otherwise have been theirs. It's outrageous that this is being done to girls and women and there is no equivalent threat to males in sport.

I agree with a couple of other posters that if trans people are allowed to compete in women's sports it makes any sex segregation in sports meaningless. What's the f*cking point.

It's nothing to do with them being trans, that's the misleading that allows this to be called 'discriminatory'. If any boys and men who want to are allowed to compete in women and girls' sports, regardless of under what conditions are imposed, then sex segregation in sports is meaningless. Being trans doesn't make a man stop being a man.

When girls are pushed out of sports, they miss out on the community building, leadership skills, and all of the other benefits that being part of a team can offer. This is particularly harmful for transgender students, who face detrimental effects on their physical and emotional wellbeing when they are pushed out of affirming spaces and communities.
