That's a significant sentence that hopefully may go some way to warning others that mutilating girls in this way is unacceptable.
It's been against the law since 1985 and this is the first criminal conviction - despite the large numbers of girls being abused in this way.

That article is horrific.

This is clearly an almost unimaginably cruel, mentally ill abusive criminal. I am glad about the conviction but it's interesting that she carried out the crime even though it is not part of her own culture. in her case it sounds like the crime might have had a sexual motivation

It has taken so long to get a prosecution - and there are countless girls in our schools who have been mutilated in this way.

What happened to the woman who carried out the assault? The news report I read said that the mums culture didn’t have this as a thing - so why the hell did she do it?

Sentencing on anything related to child sexual abuse really needs to much stronger
