Currently having a conversation about the issue of unquestioned and unresearched trans inclusion on sport with several fairly woke Facebook friends and the only ones who disagree are a) the wokest handmaiden that ever did live and b) a sweet but impressionable 20 year old. EVERYONE ELSE gets it. Everyone. Lots of reasoned, calm and sensible engagement with the issues.

Compare this to a year ago when I basically felt like I’d just declared my love for Adolf Hitler when posting about these issues. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic.

Anyone else got any positive developments of this sort to share? I know there’s still a lot to be done but I think we all deserve a bloody massive pat on the back for how far we’ve come in such a short time through sheer determination and refusal to be cowed.

I also think the increasing coverage in the press is helping, with splendid articles by people like James Kirkup, Andrew Gilligan and Janice Turner. The comments below these articles also give me hope that the vast majority of the population really hasn't drunk the Kool-Aid after all.

There’s legit transphobia in the Twitter comments under Andrew Gilligan’s prison piece. :/ Genuine transphobia. Like I have never actually seen in this debate really.

I suppose it was inevitable that some backlash would occur once the public woke up to all the insanity but I hope it stays contained. And what will the TRAs do about people who are saying actual bad stuff about trans people when they’ve already labelled everyone remotely sane “transphobic?”

Lemoncakestrudel · 06/03/2019 02:59

I’ve been worried for a while now abput what would be a strp to far. At some point the powers that be will decide they’ve given out too many rights and will take them all away. I hope this isn’t the point.

Every time I say anything on SM I get piled on, still. Everyone's got that one woke bloke on their FL who you're quite fond of for nostalgic reasons but who just can't wait to explain how you're womaning wrong & scream for a waaahmbulance because you're being mean & anyway TWAW & anyway you're basically a racist because TW are effectively (sic) 'brown women' in this debate....

...or is that just me?

But there's a big difference now. He's mostly getting ignored - couple of heart emojis from other woke friends of mine. The replies he does get are quite often critical.

Whereas my side of the conversation is getting lots of quiet 'likes' & measured responses from people I don't normally interact with as much. Who are obviously reading all this in the media & thinking 'yeah, actually these women have a bloody point'.

Absolutely the tide feels like it's turning.

I had conversations with two men in my life about this subject for the first time yesterday. One my DH and one a really good friend. Both completely get it. It was really encouraging.

HandsOffMyRights · 06/03/2019 08:05

My HR colleague now gets it. It took Karen White to convince her, though the word 'gender'still appears in too many policies.

It's schools though for me. My son's school is a Stonewall Champion School and the HT just doesn't seem to get my objections.

Activists are conveniently using the case of the Birmingham parents' protests/stopping of the 'No Outsiders' programme to conflate gender with sexuality so that if a parent at any school has concerns over the dangerous and inaccurate 'T' ideology being taught in schools, then they are a homophobic bigot.

Lemoncakestrudel · 06/03/2019 08:24

That is a shame hands. As they were quoted as saying, its the trans brainwashing they have a problem with. Although it didn’t explicitly say it in the article I was reading, the headteacher was photographed with the jelly baby picture.

Who are these fuckers who think they have the right to appropriate black women’s existences? Are any of them even black?

hipsterfun · 06/03/2019 10:49

I have a dear friend, British with black African immigrant parents, who tried to tell me that not wanting male-bodied people in women’s changing rooms was the same as not wanting black women in the changing rooms Confused

(I still love her despite this woke nonsense.)

The tide is definitely turning. And bringing with it many 'why aren't feminists concerned about this, where are they?!' which is fucking annoying.

OvaHere · 06/03/2019 12:26

I saw this on reddit which I generally find leans towards woke although possibly this particular sub doesn't.

Non-binary "genders" are personalities, not genders.
Non-binary gender is just another word for personality. There are more than just two personalities and each non-binary gender is actually a personality and not a gender. Just because you have these characteristics doesn't mean you are no longer a male or female. Personality is a social construct, not gender. The term "gender" has only been changed in some dictionary to appease people that think their personality is a different gender.

I can see that feminist will be blamed for letting tra happen in the first place.

I agree that gender is personality, and most people if they think about it for any length of time, would probably agree.

The NHS Telegraph piece - wow that is big news and great

The article contains a number of factual inaccuracies though eg

"Despite official guidance intended to eliminate mixed sex wards, none of the NHS trusts in England require a patient to have begun transition for them to be treated as their preferred sex, according to responses to more than 100 Freedom of Information requests."

This is rubbish - it was always intended to be single GENDER on a self \ID basis and this is back in the 2000s or whenever it was done.

The policymakers told the NHS to call it single sex wards so as not to "confuse" the public, but actually it was single gender.

The NHS said what the hell are you sure?

And were told yes this is wha you must do.

Someone posted a load of extracts from official docs from the time.

thatdamnwoman I hope that man teaches in a boys school?

I would hate to think the effect he would have on girls.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 06/03/2019 14:33

Oh yes feminists are definitely being blamed. I’ve lost count of the number of tweets I’ve seen where men (and it is always men) are shouting “where are feminists on this, eh, eh, eh?”

I think the appropriate reply may be "Fighting for our fucking lives"!
