‘Tonight: @TraceyMartinMP has just announced she's deferring a bill that would make it easier to change gender on birth certificates.. "there has been inadequate public consultation" and bill would benefit from legal clarification around complex cases. She's on Q+A tonight 9:25’’

I am so unbelievably shocked and happy. I may even shed a few tears.

Oh my goodness, all that hard work from Speak Up for Women, ordinary kiwis emailing their MPs, and writing letters to the PM and leaders of the coalition parties .. Tracey Martin has absolutely done the right thing. I wonder if the excellent article on trans ideology and NZ law by Annabel Markham was a factor in her decision regarding ''legal clarification' (article on the SUFW website).

Will definitely be recording Q & A tonight! Thanks for posting this.

Yeahnahyeah · 25/02/2019 05:19

Sanity at last. Thank you especially Speak Up For Women.
I'm looking forward to tonight's programme.
I hope shes not just placating us. Refusing to attend SUFWs event was not a good look at all and I think she realised that.
Oh happy days!

Illyria47 · 25/02/2019 06:11

Yes Yes Yes I hope Corin Dann has done his homework.
So delighted. Will definitely be recording this tonight.

Well done NZ women.

Don't let your guard down. Will need to keep pushing during the consultation. UK gov hoped to just skip the consultation out without anyone but special interest groups noticing. It was very user unfriendly to fill in. I would have made a hash of it without guidance from FairPlayForWomen and it took me about 4 hours over two weekends reading each section and FPFW viewpoint and putting it in my own words.

The gov is busy with Brexit so self ID may have been shelved for now but they are pushing on with the brain washing.

This is just the first round for you.

  • slip not skip
Illyria47 · 25/02/2019 06:57

Thank you Iused2BanOptimist we are feeling a trifle euphoric at the moment but know we have to keep focused.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 25/02/2019 07:09

Well done sisters

OvaHere · 25/02/2019 07:14

Great news

Courday · 25/02/2019 07:39

Well done to Speak Up for Women (and I am sure there are other groups/individuals worthy of praise). Your hard work raising awareness has paid off.
Now, I guess the real hard work starts - ensuring enough sane women participate in the consultation.

OrchidInTheSun · 25/02/2019 07:44

That is brilliant news! Huge congratulations to all the women who have worked so hard to make this happen SmileSmileSmileSmile

DpWm · 25/02/2019 07:45

This is great news.
I am also worried that our government will just crack on with self-ID as soon (or as late..) as Brexit is over with, because "look at Ireland!".
We need to keep working, it's a cross-party cross-continental issue and it's wonderful to see all these women's groups come together for this issue.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/02/2019 07:49

fantastic work NZ women, this has cheered me up no end

once you get the message out about self ID, ordinary people do not want it, they see transgenderism for the sexism that it is

you need to get some sunlight on it

Yeahnahyeah · 25/02/2019 08:34

Programme on now. Sounding like Corin has drunk to Kool aid.....
He asked, do u see that gender is on a spectrum? She replies, well...do u mean gender or sex?
Reply from him "Don't make this overly complicated" lol

ComputerSaysMo · 25/02/2019 08:42

“Don’t make this overly complicated?” Is that the best he can manage to that question? That’s actually pathetic.

Well done, Kiwi women. Puuullll!

Illyria47 · 25/02/2019 08:49

Fucking useless interview from both Tracey Martin and Corin Dan. No proper explanation at all, and no Tracey Martin, you cannot change your sex!. This issue needed a proper journalist, one who didn't put forth his own opinion but asked for a full factual rendering of the self ID proposal. Nothing about no change in appearance required etc. I will e-mail Corin Dan and tell him precisely what I thought of that miserable performance.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 25/02/2019 08:52

I started to watch it but Corin never lets his guests get a sentence out without feeling the need to interupt, at which point I yell at the screen, and feel a headache coming on.

I suspect Tracey Martin might have got a more rational discussion from the likes of Whale Oil which is really painful to say, but probably true.

Yeahnahyeah · 25/02/2019 08:54

Tracy was excellent. Flowers

I have relatives and friends in NZ and I know that because the local media is so parochial they look to the British press and the BBC for world news. This turn of events in NZ may well have been influenced by what's starting to happen here. They will have been paying a surprising amount of attention.

anOxfordparent · 25/02/2019 09:01

Well done NZ feminists!

2019StandingforWomen · 25/02/2019 09:52

Lots of exciting things happening at the moment.

Congratulations NZ women.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/02/2019 09:55

delighted to hear this. It thought it was a shoe in. Well, a size 12 kitten heel in...

Tipmeover · 25/02/2019 09:57

Tracey Martin surprised me - I thought she was actually very good. Especially in her emphasis that gender and sex are two distinct things. Corin Dann was disgraceful, absolutely appalling.

He appeared to have done no research and his dismissal over concerns about prisons and schooling was so telling.

Well done to all involved!
Keep going. Do not allow sex / gender stereotypes to be conflated in NZ or anywhere else. Flowers

terfsandwich · 25/02/2019 10:08

Well done New Zealand women. Wine
