The comments are good though.

slipperywhensparticus · 19/02/2019 08:56

I came off Twitter I don't want to get arrested for misgender

NoseringGirl · 19/02/2019 09:22

I wonder if they'll listen to any of the very clear feedback they're getting? Hmm

nauticant · 19/02/2019 09:25

"Over 20 trans people were killed in the U.S. alone in 2018"

The figure I've seen is 24. The population of the US is 327 million. If 0.5% of the population is trans, that means 24 out of 1.6 million, which is 1.5 out of 100,000 trans people are murdered per year in the US.

The general homicide rate is about 5 out of 100,000.

nauticant · 19/02/2019 09:27

Or to put it another way, if 24 trans people were murdered in 2018, and 17,250 of the general population (actually that's the 2016 figure) then if the percentage of trans people in the US is actually around 0.1%, their homicide rate is about the same as the general population.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 19/02/2019 09:28

Interesting isn't it? The further this gets pushed the more people are standing up to say no, not buying it.

I particularly like the comment: 'Women's March #Mensrightsemergency'

Callmejudith · 19/02/2019 10:23

I was LIVID when I saw this on Twitter yesterday.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 19/02/2019 10:29

The comments are encouraging though

andyoldlabour · 19/02/2019 10:33

3222 women murdered in 2017 in the US
20 Transwomen murdered in the same year.
= 0.62% of women victims.

nauticant · 19/02/2019 10:55

Compared with women or compared with men? In the US men have a homicide rate about 3-4 times that of women.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 19/02/2019 11:23

It's the insidious implication that when a trans person is killed it is because they are trans. I've no doubt that that is true in some cases but not all. And they somehow forget (when it suits their narrative) the "intersectionality" aspect of many of these people being sex workers.

DoctoressPlague · 19/02/2019 11:41

Are they serious?
A tweet about a mass shooting followed by "the real national emergency is violence against trans and queer communities"???
(I know they're referring to Trump's "national emergency", but still.)

BettyDuMonde · 19/02/2019 11:53

And they somehow forget (when it suits their narrative) the "intersectionality" aspect of many of these people being sex workers.

Often BAME (black and minority ethnic) sex workers, working in poverty conditions (ie, not white escorts in fancy hotels).

In the US there is a massive problem with black MTF transpeople contracting HIV and not being able to access diagnosis or quality ongoing healthcare (due to various intersecting reasons around race, class, culture and fear of stigmatisation).
That’s the kind of issue that I would happily stand beside transactivists in campaigning to resolve (not under the banner of women’s rights & feminism, as something else. Lumping Transwomen in with women does everyone’s health and well-being a disservice), but I don’t see anyone talking about it beyond specific HIV/AIDS charities?

Oldermum156 · 19/02/2019 13:47

If you bring up that most of the transwomen murdered are sex workers they get angry too. They are also pro-prostitution, they never want to do anything to help trans get out of the horrible, dehumanizing prostitution business. For years I have been angry with the LGBT movement in this country (the US) because htey have been focusing on gay marriage rights when thousand of gay youth are homeless and poor and have to turn to "sex work" or survival sex to live. They have no desire to do anything to fix that because the LGBT movement is run by men and having a pool of young hungry children who have to have sex to survive is in their interests.

DpWm · 19/02/2019 14:39

The comments are refreshing at least.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 19/02/2019 17:21

Over 40 sex workers killed each year in the USA.

Vixxxy · 19/02/2019 17:54

This is awful..but not surprising Sad

sackrifice · 19/02/2019 18:19

And by women we mean trans women and everyone.

So, that's not a women's march is it? It's a march.
