I'd like to see him delve further into the psychology behind such 'narcissism of an incomprehensible quality'. Whay makes such people do such things (other than 'because they can')?

Would we really call Peterson a MN favourite?

Replies are depressing, aren't they? Lots along the lines of "feminists are getting just what they wanted: a world without gender." (spoiler: nope on all counts!)

R0wantrees · 12/02/2019 18:52

Jordon Peterson,
"Such an impressive accomplishment. Defeating all those women. And so quickly. And by such a margin. Miracle? Or narcissism of an incomprehensible quality?"

Hmm
BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/02/2019 19:01

Grin Grin Grin

Jordan Peterson throwing around accusations of narcissism

R0wantrees · 12/02/2019 19:10

Its all the menz isn't it?

Lemoncakestrudel · 12/02/2019 19:23

Who is Jordan Peterson?

boatyardblues · 12/02/2019 19:27

Lemon - its best to remain in ignorance.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2019 19:31

Most of the replies I've read so far are pretty good.

GollyGoshGreat · 12/02/2019 19:46

May I suggest you get this title edited? JP isn’t a mumsnet favourite.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2019 19:51

I assumed the 'favourite' was sarcastic.

TransposersArePosers · 12/02/2019 20:00

I was expecting it to be Dr H!

Qcng · 12/02/2019 20:05

Favourite was sarcasm.

FloralBunting · 12/02/2019 20:20

Ack

So, can I ask, is this going to be another tedious back and forth about the merits or general faults of Peterson and how many of us think he's not really all that bar a few sensible stands on basic reality and his fans think he's the bestest most cleverest man of manliness?

Or could we actually have a useful conversation about the harm this sort of cheating does to female sport, and measures being taken to counter it?

nauticant · 12/02/2019 20:28

We'd probably be better off having a dedicated thread for that FloralBunting. Once a thread has caught Petersonitis, or even worse when it's a congenital condition, the thread doesn't tend to go anywhere productive.

FWRLurker · 12/02/2019 20:31

Jordan Peterson is IMO an alt right tool. MRA talking points everywhere...

There are a few people here who seem to like him but it’s a minority. Tbh this post makes me suspect someone is looking for screenshots “proving” how much mumsnet loves an anti feminist.

FWRLurker · 12/02/2019 20:32

Oh just saw it was meant to be sarcasm. Plz disregard my reply!

MargueritaPink · 12/02/2019 20:49

I like Peterson. Of course it's up to you (general you) - you can carry on with your tribalism and just ignore a very satisfyingly sarcastic comment made by someone who has a huge following.

I don't think he's "alt right". It's a bit of a lazy put down- bit like "terf". I couldn't care less if he is "anti- feminist" (whatever that means- given some of the threads on here just about everything and everyone is anti-feminist). Anyone standing up for freedom of speech is worth paying attention to.

FloralBunting · 12/02/2019 20:59

I don't mind the comment, I think it's quite right and accurate. I'm not especially bothered by Peterson one way or another. I'm just not at all eager for another thread about him, so I was just asking what this thread was going to pitch towards, given that the framing of the title seemed to be another invitation to focus on the much explored diverse views about him on FWR, rather than the issue his tweet addressed, which I'd prefer.

I'll see how it goes, at this stage.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/02/2019 21:08

I don't think he's "alt right".

He's very critical of the alt right/far right. He's utterly opposed to violence. For me that puts him with the 'normal politics' bounds, whether you like him or not he shouldn't be written off completely. I really think only the likes of Tommy Robinson etc should be beyond the pale.

But JP is also an idiot in many respects (even if he's insightful in others). It's a bit like if Boris Johnson were to chime in- I'd welcome the attention on self-ID but no-one would imagine he's a friend to women.

HerFemaleness · 12/02/2019 21:20

I thought this was going to be a She Who Must Not Be Named thread and I was intrigued to see what she had to say about power lifting.

I must say I'm a bit disappointed.

Freespeecher · 12/02/2019 21:24

Should I have added /sarc? My bad.

In any case, I found it interesting to see someone beyond this board picking up on the whole 'narcissism' thing. Don't think the usual suspects will like it very much if the discussion becomes less about whether or not TWAW and more about what could be at the root of such beliefs and behaviour.

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 12/02/2019 21:51

Well, yes, it is an interesting question. But honestly, I'm fairly certain there's a variety of rooting motivations for this kind of behaviour. I don't think there's a clear magic bullet.
I can reasonably analyse the mechanisms of how it all functions, but some are in it for ego, some from an abusive root, some for power, some because it scratches a religious itch, and loads of other issues, I'm sure.

MagicMix · 12/02/2019 21:55

I did enjoy the comments in the Twitter thread about whether women's use of hormonal contraception is lowering the sperm count of Western men and making them more effeminate.

JP is right about this but man alive has he got some odd fans.

Freespeecher · 12/02/2019 22:01

MagicMix

Alex Jones (of InfoWars fame) used to say that the water supply was turning frogs gay. (Think it was contraceptive pill-related... anyway, if you're looking for crazy he took some beating).

If anything, it's heartening to see anyone with a wide reach to pick up on the pathology of these males who win women's sporting competitions.

The terminally woke consistently refuse to comment on this, which always leaves a rather disparate bunch who do say something.

R0wantrees · 13/02/2019 10:54

Its important to be aware of the nature of the 'reach'
There will be some who are broadcasting to groups whose concerns are not primarily for women and children.

As seen in the quoted repsonse upthread, some who are 'anti-feminist' / sexist / homophobic etc will seek to co-opt this.
