She was beaten by McKinnon and (after briefly being bullied and cowed into an apology) she is now resolving to fight for women's sports.

Good for her! She's going to have a really rough time over the next few days. I hope she gets in touch with Martina and other sportswomen and they can work on a strategy of fairness.

HomeStar · 02/01/2019 12:59

Good for Jen. I saw before that McKinnon had bullied her into an apology and was furious for her.

I'd love to see women boycotting the official awards ceremonies, maybe even organising alternative ones, in these cases. A boycott needs to happen, but women athletes shouldn't have to give up their sports and their chances to compete, to make a political point.

Refusing to stand on the podium with a cheat seems like a much easier way of sending the same messages to the sports organisations that are allowing this nonsense.

WSPU · 02/01/2019 13:06

Go Jen. We are with you.

HumberElla · 02/01/2019 13:09

I don’t do Twitter but hope Jen knows how much support she has for this stance! I stand with Jen.

KiteMarked · 02/01/2019 13:13

Done.

starcrossedseahorse · 02/01/2019 13:15

Go Jen! The abuse she got was horrific and it will be again. So far McKinnon seems not to have commented but it will happen. Jen has SO much support from women on twitter.
Standing with her.

Whatevszz · 02/01/2019 14:49

Good for her. I saw her reaching out to Martina Navratilova too.

Macareaux · 02/01/2019 14:57

I bet when she reached out to Martina, she didn't say 'don't you know who I am?'

LizzieSiddal · 02/01/2019 15:21

Good for her!

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 02/01/2019 15:25

Go, Jen!

Katvonbatshit · 02/01/2019 17:28

Well done Jen
Brave woman x

vicviking · 02/01/2019 17:32

Go Jen! Looking forward to hearing more from her on this in 2019.

ChewyLouie · 02/01/2019 20:37

Well done Jen, plenty of women standing beside you 💐

ProfessoressWoland · 02/01/2019 21:04

This made my day! It's heartening to know there are female athletes pushing for a change (offline and not just on Twitter), women's sports is one area where it's needed urgently. Go Jen!

SlowlyShrinking · 02/01/2019 21:08

Yes! This needs to happen. Hopefully now she’s broken the silence, others will follow

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 02/01/2019 21:42

Even more encouragingly, she must know what she's getting into given how she was (presumably) pressured into backing down before - and isstill publicly stating that she'll do it.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about this year now Smile

Voice0fReason · 02/01/2019 21:48

Good for her!
I hope she gets the support she needs from people like Martina.

SlightAggrandising · 02/01/2019 22:46

Sounds like a force for good!!

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 02/01/2019 23:02

Saw this earlier. Really pleased. Also saw she had said she was wrong to apologise to McKinnon and won't be doing that again.

It feels like a lot of people have finally had enough of this shite.

Has she had any backlash yet? There wasn't a single negative post earlier when I saw it (and there were about a hundred),just everyone in agreement.

...Of course, there may have been loads but they have all blocked me. I've even been blocked by McKinnon on my pretend trans-ally sock account, I couldn't maintain the absurdity to the required level, evidently.

Iused2BanOptimist · 02/01/2019 23:06

McKinnon has probably blocked her and missed it. She's probably blocked by all McKinnon's fans so there's been nothing negative yet.

ADropofReality · 02/01/2019 23:25

Don't you all know it's transphobic not to want Rhys McKinnon to win every cycling medal meant for women?

If you question any of this, McKinnon will block you. He can't stand being told he's a cheat and a fraud but more than this he particuarly can't stand being told there are slight concerns, minor issues, erm, umm, well, ah - he's a BRAVE AND STUNNING WOMAN and deserves more plaudits than any woman cyclist or any athlete ever has ever had - because he's achieved what he's achieved against a tidal wave of transphobia (a tidal wave he has nevertheless overcome, what with his superior body strength and testosterone).

By the way, sometimes Rhys McKinnon loses the women's races he competes in, which is absolute proof he gains no advantage in these competitions by being male; if he had an advantage, he'd win them all wouldn't he? Because male advantage is Manichean, isn't it, rather than being a little more subtle. Oh yes.

And if you think otherwise, Rhys can block you on Twitter and cry about misogyny - he's an expert, he's Professor of Trans Misogyny at Bumfuck University, Nowhere. He's made a SPECIAL STUDY of sexism and found he's not guilty of it, and what are your acedemic qualifications to say he's not?

unwashedanddazed · 03/01/2019 00:09

Talking of Martina, there's an excellent documentary on transwoman Renee Richards on 14 Jan 10pm on the BTsport2 channel. Very interesting on Richards' determination to play championship level women's tennis. Great friend of Martina's and was also her coach. Richards' views on trans women in women's sport are particularly interesting at the end of the film. It's also a fascinating insight into the effect of transition on the family.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 03/01/2019 00:15

Thanks, will try to remember that's on, it sounds interesting.

WSPU · 03/01/2019 00:21

ADrop 😂

LizzieSiddal · 03/01/2019 02:18
