‘Feticide’ and the eroding of women’s rights in the US

The New York Times has just published an amazing set of articles about the rights, or lack of them, of pregnant women in the US. Some of the content is really upsetting; women being arrested because their (much-wanted) pregnancy was ended by a car accident; signing over their children to the state because they’d used drugs; being kept in a coma until their baby was born. I hadn’t realized the extent of some of this and how long it had been going on for.

The NYT is subscriber only but you can read 4 articles free a month. These are long but split into sections.

I haven't been able to bring myself to to read them yet. The outlook for women and girls in my country looks so bleak. Our rights are being assaulted by men on the right and left alike.

If they were really concerned about the rights of children they'd tackle maternal deaths. The US has an appalling track record. While the maternal death rate is dropping in most countries, it is rising in the US. The UK ranks in 23rd globally, the US is at 36.

I read those articles. It is so terrible what is happening over there. I find the fact that they went from forcibly sterilising women of colour to demonising them and refusing them the right to choose to have abortions really confusing.
Applogies if I don’t make sense, but I went from the programne on Netflix about second wave feminists to this article. Is it only okay for women of colour to have/not have babies if it is someone else’s choice?
I read the article via ny times so there is a chance that I am talking about a slightly different article than those above. And I do understand that it now affects all women in the US.
