I've seen a lot of people saying about Farther Christmas being sexist and that Santa should not have a sex what does everyone think about this. - Kate x

Where have you seen a lot of this? Why not do some proper research for your article.

hackmum · 21/12/2018 19:04

I'm not impressed by a Farther Christmas. I think they should have a Nearer Christmas.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/12/2018 19:04

I kind of like it that we have an archetypal bloke scurrying round trying to organise Christmas on behalf of everyone else.

Katef44 · 21/12/2018 19:06

Just trying to spark conversation if that's okay!

I really love your NN IntentsAndPorpoises

I'm also outraged, outraged I tell you, that the journalist OP is discriminating against childless festive figures. Why does Santa have to be a parent at all?

Xmas Grin
53rdWay · 21/12/2018 19:07

Which people have you seen saying this exactly, ’Kate’?

Katvonbatshit · 21/12/2018 19:07

I read that as father Christmas shouldn't have sex.

A agree. No shagging for Santa.

misscockerspaniel · 21/12/2018 19:17

I prefer Santa Paws [santa]

Mariotta · 21/12/2018 19:19

I live in a Grinch-like bubble until the actual day, so thankfully have seen no chatter on Farther or Nearer or, indeed, Mother or Father Christmas.

Thank fuck.

Lettera · 21/12/2018 19:21

What's your view, Kate?

PrincessDando · 21/12/2018 19:33

Its not sexist, any more than 'mother nature' is sexist. And at least mother nature is a real thing.

userschmoozer · 21/12/2018 19:37

We can't ask Old Man River and Father Time what they think because they were banned for being ageist.

FloralBunting · 21/12/2018 19:41

Quite frankly I think the sex of the imaginary person who gets credit for the gifts kids are given is probably the least significant aspect of a sexist culture I can think of.

It's like a woke version of the story that Christmas is being banned. Who buys this nonsense?

donquixotedelamancha · 21/12/2018 19:41

Santa should not have a sex what does everyone think about this.

What, like a ken doll? If that were the case, why would it come up in conversation?

"Ho, ho ho little boy, have I got a Christmas surprise for you."

Where have you seen a lot of this? Why not do some proper research for your article.

Naughty, naughty. No troll hunting! The OP just happens to have a lot going on, and interest in a number of attention grabbing topics and has posted it all on her first day on MN.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/12/2018 19:43

Indeed. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest putting this below getting equal pay and eliminating male violence on the to-do list.

deepwatersolo · 21/12/2018 19:49

You are all superstitious heathens, one way or the other. There is no Father Christmas. Nor a Mother Christmas. What happens is that on Christmas Eve baby Christ flies around and brings the presents. No, not through a chimney!

PositiveVibez · 21/12/2018 20:00

I think anyone who wants to should be able to self identify as Santa.

Santa could then be added to the list of things that people identify as because the list simply isn't long enough.

FloralBunting · 21/12/2018 20:04

Q. What is your Gender?

  1. Female
  2. Male
  3. Non binary
  4. Genderqueer
  5. Trans
  6. Santa
drspouse · 21/12/2018 20:06

But surely St Nicholas was a man, maybe he identified as non binary trans femme though.

FloralBunting · 21/12/2018 20:18

Well, the rather inaccurate legend goes that he slapped Arius for saying Jesus isn't God, and another legend says he secretly donated the dowries to some poor women who couldn't marry without them.

So, one reading could go that he's another example of male pattern violence who contributed to the continuation of patriarchal notions of women as property.

But even I'm not that Bah Humbug. Grin

RebelWitchFace · 21/12/2018 20:25

What about the poor elves? I mean they do all the work..make the gifts, wrap them, name them etc for months. They tried to cone out on the shelf but now everyone hates them.

No recognition for all their hard work and everyone is ranting and raving about the fat bloke going on a joy ride for one night a year.

FloralBunting · 21/12/2018 20:27

"Is Santa an Elf-traffiker?" will be the next burning social justice question.

FloralBunting · 21/12/2018 20:28

There's an elf-ID joke in here somewhere but I'm too ill to tease it out...

misscockerspaniel · 21/12/2018 20:31

I've seen a lot of people saying that the drone attack on Gatwick is just a practise run for disrupting Santa on Christmas Eve.

FruitCider · 21/12/2018 20:35

Father Christmas is based on St Nicolas. I'm not sure we have permission to re-gender this great saint without his permission 😉
