He (Jacob Walter Anderson) walks away with no criminal record, no sex offender status, a $400 fine after he was expelled from his university for raping a woman at a frat party.

“This guy violently raped me multiple times, choked me and when I blacked out, he dumped me face down on the ground and left me to die,” the woman’s email states. “When I woke up aspirating on my own vomit, my friends immediately took me to the hospital and we reported it to the Waco police, Baylor police and Title IX office.”

“I have been waiting two-and-a-half years for this trial,” her email states. “I have been through hell and back, and my life has been forever turned upside down. I feel like I should have the right to the trial for the four counts of sexual assault the grand jury indicted him on. … I was furious and devastated when I read the newspaper article that she [the prosecutor] was basically dropping the sexual assault charges.”

This plea bargaining arrangement they appear to have in America is bizarre, isn't it?

QuietContraryMary · 11/12/2018 13:30

The prosecutor hasn't really clarified the reason for the deal, but there is some suggestion of not getting a conviction in a previous case in the same county, despite DNA evidence. However the victim was not asked before making the deal, nor was she notified. It's not really clear how this deal with zero consequences is preferable to a trial with a possible not guilty verdict at the end.

Perhaps he wants to be a supreme-court judge?

Maybe the fratboy’s family is well connected?
I know these laughable outcomes when the university deals with rape internally, but this in the general justice system seems like a new low. Heck, even Brock Turner‘s punishment was harsher.

Sometimes I wonder if class plays a role, too. Along the lines of ‚oh, being thrown out university is punishment enough‘...

Ah, Cross Post materialist

Yeah, good point Materialist. Many cases might never even go as far as this one did. Also, Brock Turner was caught and pulled off the passed out girl by a vocal, sober ‚third party‘, who was totally exasperated by what he had stumbled upon.
Not easy to dismiss, such a witness.
