Pregnant, but not a woman

I just really don’t understand this. www.advocate.com/commentary/2018/11/13/im-pregnant-im-not-woman

The most baffling bit is that she says she’s looking forward to meeting her baby girl. But how does she know it’s a girl? Isn’t she worried about repeating the mistakes her parents made when they assigned her female?

The whole thing is baffling. I think there was another thread about this a few days ago. I feel so sorry for the baby.

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/12/2018 19:49

It's baffling because it doesn't make sense.

Every time I see a story like this in the news I wish that someone had made the decision not to expose people who are struggling to make sense of their lives like this.

^^ This.

Pregnant and therefore most certainly a woman. Fixed that for her.

AspieAndProud · 03/12/2018 20:08

There’s no story here other than the mother’s denial of reality.

bluescreen · 03/12/2018 23:16

I read this article a few weeks ago and still don't understand why the most basic female-defining thing has become a bloke thing.
Pregnancy is increasingly common among trans men. For Jason Barker, who has made a film about the experience, it changed his life.

Yeahnahyeah · 03/12/2018 23:35

Here's a NZ one. This person used IV as they are single, and this person also laments of the double stigma of both transphobia and poverty.

Yeahnahyeah · 03/12/2018 23:36

Sorry, sperm doner, not IV

Voice0fReason · 03/12/2018 23:40

No man has ever or will ever be pregnant.
Everyone who has ever been pregnant is a woman.

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/12/2018 23:56

From the Graun story www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/mar/22/story-one-mans-pregnancy-trans-jason-barker

"In the UK, the Office for National Statistics collects no information on the gender of the birthing parent; neither does the NHS."
Hmm I expect that's because the gender is both irrelevant and made-up shit. If they're giving birth they are an adult human female and nothing else.

BubonicTheHedgehag · 04/12/2018 00:12

WhereYouLeftIt:
Yep, that just about sums it up. If someone is physically pregnant and going to give birth, then they are female, and they have female biology.

People, generally, probably don't give a damn if anyone chooses to present as a "man" or a "woman" or anything; but someone is pregnant and going to give birth, then that's a pretty big clue, right there!

incallthebloodytime · 04/12/2018 00:31

Pregnancy makes everyone's mind go a bit odd at times. It's your hormones!

Ereshkigal · 04/12/2018 00:36

Yep, that just about sums it up. If someone is physically pregnant and going to give birth, then they are female, and they have female biology.

Exactly. Unless they choose to, there is no need to collect any information about their gender identity. It's irrelevant unless they are pursuing some Orwellian policy change for midwives and HCPs.

BubonicTheHedgehag · 04/12/2018 00:57

Indeed. Gender is totally irrelevant, where pregnancy is concerned.

The pregnant and birthing mother can be any gender or personality or preferences she chooses, whatever floats her boat!
Biological reality, on the other hand, is biological reality. The pregnant woman is a woman, not a man.

HestiaParthenos · 04/12/2018 22:08

Isn’t she worried about repeating the mistakes her parents made when they assigned her female?

Shocking!
Hasn't a transactivist called them out on this literal violence towards an unborn baby?
