Lance Mason beat up his wife, Aisha, in 2015

www.cleveland.com/court-justice/index.ssf/2015/09/former_common_pleas_judge_lanc.html

"A police report detailed how Mason punched his wife 20 times with a closed fist, smashed her head against the car's center console five times, and continued to beat her, bite her, and threaten her after she got out of the car."

"while driving down Van Aken Boulevard with the couple's children in the backseat." (the two daughters are now 11 & 8, the 11 year old has Down's Syndrome)

"Aisha Mason needed reconstructive surgery on her face to recover from a broken orbital bone. "

"Several people spoke on Mason's behalf during the sentencing hearing, including his sister, Lynn, all three of his attorneys, several local religious leaders and restaurateur Tony George. All portrayed Mason as a good person who made a mistake that he deeply regrets and won't repeat. "

"Attorney Fernando Mack, who represented Mason free of charge and attended college with the former judge, told the court that Mason is at his best as a father to his two daughters. The crowd responded loudly with shouts of "Amen," while Mason wiped tears from his eyes."

"As Mason was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs, he told the crowd that he loves them and his wife.

"I'm good, I'm strong," he said."

McGinty and Mason had served on the bench together as judges. Mason initially asked for a special prosecutor to hear his case because of that, but his request was denied.

"It's a sad day," McGinty said. "He was a good judge and a friend, but he owes society this time. I am confident he will leave prison rehabilitated and will again be an asset to our community."

"Officers searched the home and, according to the report, found:

About 2,300 live rounds of various calibers
Nearly 500 shotgun slugs
A Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun
A Winchester shotgun
A 50-shell shotgun belt
A FNH P90 semi-automatic rifle still in the box
A JLD Enterprises Inc. PTR-91 semi-automatic rifle with a scope
A Smith & Wesson handgun
A Springfield Armory .40 caliber-handgun
A sword
Four canisters of smoke grenades
A KDH bulletproof vest
A Jaguar knife" www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/08/cleveland_judge_accused_of_bea.html

Congresswoman Marcia Fudge sent a letter of support (attached) in which she said he was a friend of 20 years and it would not happen again.

He served just 9 months in prison and was personally hired by the city mayor on release over and above 13 other candidates for position of Director of Minority Business

Now he has been arrested on suspicion of murder after Aisha was found stabbed at his home, and he attempted to flee the scene in his Audi. www.cleveland.com/news/2018/11/vigil-is-monday-for-slain-shaker-heights-teacher-estranged-wife-of-former-judge-accused-in-her-death.html

It is reported that Mason was hired by the city mayor as a personal favour to Congresswoman Marcia Fudge

What a disgusting story. How could all those people have blindly supported him. Amen indeed.

MorrisZapp · 20/11/2018 13:03

Jesus fucking christ. America is broken. That poor, poor woman and those girls. I'm speechless.

Popchyk · 20/11/2018 13:09

That's just horrific.

Thanks for putting all that together, QCM.

All those prominent people in 2015 lining up to give him support.

stillathing · 20/11/2018 13:12

wow. how many more clues to this man's danger were needed?

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 13:14

This is the 911 call from 2014.

And it's Republicans who are said to have the problem with women ...

I've just read a statement put out by Marcia Fudge where she says

''My support of Lance in 2015 was based on the person I knew for almost 30 years – an accomplished lawyer, prosecutor, state legislator and a judge. That’s the Lance Mason I supported. The person who committed these crimes is not the Lance Mason familiar to me. ''

It doesn't appear to have crossed her mind that maybe the Mason who was such a bang up guy for his colleagues, could have been an unholy nightmare to his wife and kids. That maybe she didn't know Mason as well as his wife did.

This has made me cry - with sorrow for the victim and her children of course, but also with a huge amount of anger and frustration.

What with this report, the proposal and very real possibility of Ohio passing legislation for a blanket ban on abortions (with the penalty for doing so including execution) and variety of other methods that society is attempting to silence, subjugate and exterminate females my heart weeps for the women of the world (including myself and DD).

BarbarianMum · 20/11/2018 13:22

I would love to say I'm shocked. But you know what, I'm not. Not even surprised. In fact I was thinking "family annhilator from about halfway down your first post - they're always "great guys" too. Charasmatic, manipulative and dangerous. Thankful that the girls are still alive.

TheLastMermaid · 20/11/2018 13:25

Those poor children. How could this be enabled to happen? Yes, enabled, not allowed. That poor woman.

OlennasWimple · 20/11/2018 13:27

Why do people think that the bright, engaging friend that they know is the only side of that person? Even when faced with horrendous evidence to the contrary?

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 13:30

Here's his speech from his sentencing in 2015

The sentencing remarks from the judge start at 4:30. It says that the deceased had asked him to seek counselling apparently for emotional abuse, and that he came from a 'great family'.

There's a perfect storm of factors which may be relevant to this sort of case.

Obviously, starting with the disconnect between public and private personas - that should be a huge red flag.

But there's also the 'good man doing good work' thing ... there's a phenomenon 'moral licensing', 'Moral licensing is a a particularly interesting mental glitch: apparently, doing something that helps to strengthen our positive self-image also makes us less worried about the consequences of immoral behaviour, and therefore more likely to make immoral choices. ' from the first link I found, www.pickthebrain.com/blog/moral-licensing-how-being-good-can-make-you-bad/ ... I think this could apply to many noisy SJW types, child-abusing priests etc.

And then there's the christian religion with its dangerous idea that forgiveness and redemption is freely obtained from god, not from the victim of your wrongdoing or from your own determined effort to change. (Of course, a truly good person won't glibly take their get-out-of jail free card ... but that's despite 'gods forgiveness' not because of it)

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 13:35

At 17:20 in the sentencing video above, the three attorneys say 'no-one's getting paid here, and ask for no court costs or fines to be imposed'. This was granted. So THREE lawyers willing to represent this brutal man for free. Lawyers FFS

This is Aisha Fraser who was murdered by Lance Mason in front of her children. She was a primary school teacher.

The second black American woman killed in 3 days by her ex is Dr Tamara O'Neal who has just been murdered by her ex-boyfriend (along with 2 other people). She broke off their engagement.

Apparently the circumstances were that she was dropping her daughters off at his house. Hence why she was there. I believe she had a new fiancée.

ILuvBirdsEye · 20/11/2018 13:39

Oh my goodness! What does a bloke need to do to be labelled a bad guy?

OrchidInTheSun · 20/11/2018 13:41

And I'm just listening to a Russian woman on the radio describing how her husband was driving her to work when he diverted to the woods and chopped off her hands with her axe and then drove her to hospital where he said 'what an adrenalin rush!' to her through the car window.

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 13:42

Here's the Mayor saying they had no complaints about his behaviour at work since he was employed last year

Kill a white man, preferably one richer and more right wing than himself. Or be non white and have a religion other than Christianity, and do just about anything at all.

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 13:49

The man here is black and was supported by a host of black men & black women. The references to whites and non-whites are not particularly helpful.

What he had was social status & connections, and that transcends race.

OP posts:
ILuvBirdsEye · 20/11/2018 13:56

she said he was a friend of 20 years and it would not happen again.
How on earth can anyone with a brain cell say that??

It has happened... that is proof that he is capable of doing it. And who can guarantee the future? All those people falling over themselves to side with him.

ILuvBirdsEye · 20/11/2018 14:00

Kill a white man, preferably one richer and more right wing than himself. Or be non white and have a religion other than Christianity, and do just about anything at all But to a woman? Seems to me that if leaves her alive, he's just fine.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/11/2018 14:20

"Well, what did it matter. She was only a woman. And she was his wife, why gee, of course a husband can discipline his wife. She should have obeyed him. She probably provoked him. Must have provoked him. Because he was such an awesome guy. It was just a bit of a domestic". Etc

I get so mad at the apologists and handmaidens that rally round to minimise male violence. He carried out a brutal sustained attack, that could have killed her. It can hardly be a surprise that after his release he actually did kill her. So frustrating.

RedFin · 20/11/2018 14:25

It's unbelievable. If he had beaten a random stranger like that people would have been horrified. But it was his wife so they think "meh, he's a good guy". What a tragedy for that poor woman and her children and family
