"On Tuesday, Superior Court Justice Robert Clark sentenced sex worker Moka Dawkins to eight years in prison for fatally stabbing a client, Jamie Foster, 27, in his downtown Toronto apartment on Aug. 3, 2015. "
"In addition to enduring hundreds of lockdowns in the jail, Dawkins wrote she has had to fight to be given programs and support meant for individuals in the LGTBQ community, and only recently was allowed to wear a wig."
“The attacks, discrimination and constant fights to be able to express my own identity have made my time at the institution particularly difficult mentally, emotionally and physically.”
The judge said because of the harsh conditions he was prepared to credit her two days for every one served prior to conviction.

'Foster bled to death in his apartment hallway after receiving multiple stab wounds. A pathologist will testify that three stab wounds to Foster’s upper left arm, left groin and left thigh were fatal.
Foster also suffered “sharp force wounds” to his face, arm and shin, plus nine wounds to his hands and fingers, some of which penetrated the finger joints, court heard.'
A neighbour who witnessed a man “naked, bleeding and begging for help” outside her door just before 1:42 a.m. placed the 911 call, said Mungovan. The neighbour’s husband said he watched a man dressed in women’s clothing carrying a sword under his arm.
Minutes later, officers arrived and spotted Dawkins outside in a parking lot carrying a sword in her right hand and three knives in her left. She complied with the cops’ orders to stop and drop the weapons.
