I don't understand how this is anything other than conforming to gender stereotypes. "Fairies and footballers" day ffs. And this 6 year old saying they're a girl because they like dresses and Hello Kitty.
Describing a three year old as being preoccupied with gender for liking dresses and jewellery - I run a nursery and we have lots of girls and boys who like dresses and jewellery and I wouldn't have said this was because of "a preoccupation with gender". It's because they like dresses and jewellery.
