utterly bonkers but (I think??) gender critical TFTD today on Radio 4. It was "Intersex Day of Remembrance" and the speaker said that it wouldn't have helped the intersex person she was talking about to be lumped into some "gender fluid" identity thingamijig.

However, TFTD is so completely surreal that I might have misunderstood - it might have been about carrots or something.....

The speaker said that for 1500 births, there is one intersex birth for whom no determination of sex can be made. I expect she was referring to not XX and not XY.

Completely bogus, like the rest of her piece.

Thanks for this, i will listen later. I got a response from my complaint to the bbc about using the protection of the TFTD slot to allow an opposed voice in favour of the trans view and gra consultation completion. I got a rubbish response 'first hand experience in contentious issues' blah blah. I asked for a gc view in TFTD before the consultation ended as balance (this was not refered to in the response i got). Looks like I maybe got my wish err... 3 weeks late.

I didn't hear it but did hear Will Young promoting Stonewall on the Today programme, talking about rates of depression in the LGBT community (50% have experienced it compared to 1 in 6 in the whole population says Mr Young) and how in particular transgendered people struggle with high rates of suicide attempts.

TFTD sounds intriguing - will try and listen on iplayer!

TorchesTorches · 08/11/2018 13:40

Oops , unopposed voice I mean.

nauticant · 08/11/2018 13:42

For anyone listening again, would you keep an ear open for the 1 in 1500 statistic? Maybe I didn't hear it right.

Waterparc · 08/11/2018 13:44

This must be the first time anyone has willingly listened to TTFD twice (I nearly said once!)

I did catch some of it and was pretty baffled tbh.

It didn't seem terribly coherent in my opinion, but I did wonder if it was the BBC's attempt to put forward an alternative view after all the complaints about Rabbi Janner Klausner.

MsMcWoodle · 08/11/2018 14:36

Heard Will Young. Made me shout at the radio. Pompous, ill-informed twat.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/11/2018 14:56

I used to have a poster of him up on my wall Blush

GraceMarks · 08/11/2018 15:40

I was left utterly confused by it myself. At first, it seemed to be saying "don't appropriate intersex conditions to make a point about trans rights" but by the end it seemed to have turned into "sex is a spectrum" and she was conflating sex and gender too.

I don't understand why TFTD is allowed to be used to score political points anyway. They are all people who obviously have a religious agenda and it's really jarring to get that right in the middle of a news programme.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/11/2018 16:17

I shouted at Will Young too! His world really does seem to stop at the end of his nose!
