Currently at 68% in favour of Senate Bill 2407 with 32% against. The 'Yes'

The bill is here malegislature.gov/Bills/189/S2407.pdf and it abolishes 'sex' and replaces it with 'gender'

The 'Yes' got millions of dollars in funding vs 1/20 of the amount for No, so not really a surprise it won. Quite a big margin though.

The phrasing on first glance makes it look like they are adding gender identity in addition to sex. Not sure I understand fully what the context is though.

SECTION 1. Section 92A of chapter 272 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “sex”, in line 9, the following words:- , gender identity"

SECTION 3. Section 98 of said chapter 272, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “sex”, in line 3, the following words:- , gender identity

I think the context is 'you can't keep transgender women out of women's toilets' etc.

I think the part of adding gender ID as an additional and separate category for anti-discrimination laws to apply to in addition to sex is fine. E.g. you can't refuse to rent your apartment to the male bodied person in front of you because they are wearing feminine clothing and using feminine pronouns.

This part is bad though - Seems to say "If a person says they are a woman they get to use the women's locker room"

An owner, lessee, proprietor, manager, superintendent, agent or employee of any place of public accommodation, resort or amusement that lawfully segregates or separates access to such place of public accommodation, or a portion of such place of public accommodation, based on a person’s sex shall grant all persons admission to, and the full enjoyment of, such place of public accommodation or portion thereof consistent with the person’s gender identity.

yep lurker - that's exactly what that says.

no such thing as single sex spaces in Massachussets anymore, and no requirement to even put any effort in - Gender Identity is just an internal feeling, with no way for anyone to prove that they do or don't have one - so no way to disprove either. Anyone can go anywhere - they may as well just dump any sections on sex based protections because now they are completely nullified.
