Discussion re man claiming minority group funded compared to self id

There's a debate on lbc radio right now, about the guy who claimed arts funding for black minorities.

There have been several references to gender self id as a comparator. (Also a confused mention of gender = sexuality!)

However, there is significant outrage and open disgust at this person claiming to have the status/characteristic of another group. It seems clearly nonsensical and unacceptable. And yet..

(When I first turned it on, the presenter was introducing the segment in conversation with a guest. He asked the guest about gender self id and hr couldn't get on the fence quick enough.)

Good grief they've mentioned dictionary definitions and semantics now.

This is a near-perfect facsimile of the argument against self id yet the presenter has already commented that it's not PC to say anything against that. Yet there is an obvious, vocal consensus that claiming a different race is totally unacceptable.

And black people are being actively encouraged to call in with their experience and opinions, given they are the group bring affected.
