Tracey Crouch MP resigned when the Govt appeased the Gambling lobby by delaying a restriction on fixed bets machines. Her resignation is significant for two reasons, at least.
- It is unusual for a Minister, let alone a Conservative Minister, to shine a light on the influence of lobbyists on government (in)action. We know it goes on, and how it damages the public interest when government are in thrall to the Lobby - eg Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence, Press for Change's role in the reform of the Gendered Recognition Act.
- Tracey Crouch is being described as the best Sports Minister in living memory, particularly for her work in the field of sport for women and girls. I don't know if anyone visited her or wrote to her during the GRA consultation, but it seems unlikely that she would accept male-bodied individuals intruding in and damaging Women's Sport.
She sounds like a politician that could teach her colleagues a thing or two about putting the public interest before corporate profits, and championing the interests of women and girls where she can.
