Think we should start lobbying bbc to persuade them not to fund mermaids allsorts etc. Just looked at whet they gave allsorts last year and my mind is blown. Yes, I agree that we should do this.

Years ago, it used to be possible for donors to specify what a charity was allowed to spend their money on. So if somebody donated ten pounds for circus dogs in Newcastle the charity had to honour that request. Charities were legally obliged to return the donation otherwise.

Does anybody know whether this is still the case? I would only donate to CiN on condition that none of the money went to organisations that promote unevidenced misinformation to children.

Charities have to apply for funds individually so we would need to get Transgender Trend to make an application for funding. I think we would need to be very clear in the complaint about concerns re Allsorts and the others as to be honest it looks like CiN fund a wide range of charities on the criteria that they make a real difference to the lives of children. They support a lot of women’s charities as well so I don’t want to say that CIN should be roundly attacked as I don’t think they should. I do think it’s reasonable to raise a polite complaint about the effect on children’s lives to be involved with these charities, particularly with Allsorts being involved in schools

Do charities have to produce a record of what they spend their money on? Just musing really but would be interested to know.

Right, so how shall we word this? I have a transgender adult child, and they're horrified by this.

I don’t think there’s any point in trying to stop them from supporting certain charlatans charities, as the woke will just say they’re being abused by bigots. 🙄 I think we would be better, much as I hate to say it, ignoring who they support, but push for them to support transgender trend. The BBC are too far into the trans woman hating agenda to stop supporting the trans groups.

I’ve just looked through the Allsorts accounts and they receive funding from a number of different places. I don’t think it is at all worth our energy to try and lobby funds not to give grants to these charities. It would be far better to support TT and try to turn the tide of public support.

I think there needs to be some urgent wake-up calls to schools, and grant-making bodies about whether they are doing the right thing, in the light of growing public unease about the approach to young people presenting as transgender.

Whereas gender sceptics have tended to concentrate on the issues thrown up by the GRA, it may be an idea to turn up the heat on children's and parents' rights and the potential damage.

Just like the GRA campaign, we would need to inform the public about the two sides of the coin - one concerned about social contagion, recruitment, affirmation and intervention without parents' knowledge and the opposite side of the coin (backed by governments and charities) spreading untested, risky interventions through LBGT networks.

It would be a new avenue for gender sceptics to trailblaze with leaflets, billboards, stickers, articles, letters to Editors, emails to MPs.

That's a good suggestion - I'd add in groups undermining safeguarding. The DfE repeatedly references GIRES in their guidance for schools about the Equality Act. They state that GIRES have produced guidance on combatting transphobic bullying in schools. However the link takes you a page publicising GIRES - no policy guidance, just a suggestion that a school contacts GIRES directly. Why it is acceptable for the DfE to advertise a private organisation in this way I cannot imagine?

The only advantage is that this all provides a clear evidence trail of direct links between the government and a group that is openly undermining our safeguarding guidelines (telling teachers to keep a child's secrets).

AugustL When you put it like that, it's impossible not to at least question why the BBC supports Mermaids (if indeed they do).

And the thing is, it's hardly any time at all since the Kid's Company scandal, which was also headed up by someone with highly questionable credentials, pushing an approach to children's mental health not backed by science and in conflict with professional standards, which did a lot of self-publicity, and received unquestioning media and social media adulation.

The parallels stare you in the face, and yet......

If you look on the Mermaids website under staffing, it says that their helpline is funded by Children in Need.

I've got increasingly sceptical about lots of big charity organisations lately. I won't be giving to CiN this year, but will make sure the £20 or so I would have donated goes directly to a smaller, individual charity. Not sure which one yet.

AbsintheFriends I would recommend researching any charities related to women or children and checking if the women’s one is actually for the benefit of women only, so your gift is not abused.

DD plays with boys' toys and lives in Pokemon t-shirts and joggers, trousers at school. Thank fuck she knows that that's okay and she's not a boy.

I certainly won’t be giving to CIN or Comic Relief. MOney will go to GC groups instead.
