My dad is on the committee of a church, and predictably the 'who let the dads out' dads and toddlers club is on a Saturday. He wanted my partner to go with the kids. I said can I come, was told no its just for dads. The toddler club the mums go to is on a Friday.
He doesn't see a problem that this is a) discriminating against full time working mothers and b) perpetuating the 'dads full time, mums part time' culture.
I don't have a problem with a club specifically for dads to meet up with their kids, its the fact that its on a Saturday but the mums one is on a week day. If they alternated dads and mums clubs every Saturday that wouldn't be such an issue. Or, and I know this is radical, just have a parents club where everyone can go. On any day of the fucking week.
I hate this shit because it's one more step away from men taking the stay at home role in the early children years. It reinforces that stereotype. Plus I hate being told I specifically can't do something because I'm a woman.
