NPC Meme - an alternative to 'Handmaiden or 'Kool-aid drinkers'

Not aimed at the activists themselves as much as the supporters who are limited to parroting accepted orthodoxies and are unable to think for themselves.

The NPC (or non-playable character) applies in many spheres of course, but does rather skewer those who see stating 'TWAW' as the end of the discussion. It's also hard to oppose as it merely criticises an unquestioning approach, so in itself is not racist, sexist etc.

Who knows, it could be just a flash in the pan but I still see it as a symbol of an increasing number of people who want to freely discuss all sorts of issues rather than be told what they can and can't say by self-appointed 'woke' Gatekeepers.

I read something about this. I have to say the circular statement of TWAW did cross my mind in relation to what the meme attempts to convey.

It all seems a bit silly and even sillier that twitter HQ got so worked up by it. It's like everyone became so earnest we've lost the ability to lampoon and satirise especially with politics. I often wonder how Spitting Image would be received now.

Yep, the heavy-handed approach to such silliness tells its own story.

Unusual to assume if someone disagrees with you it means they can't think for themselves.

Freespeecher · 18/10/2018 15:02

It's more than that - the disagreement they're mocking is when it's just the parroting of learned phrases rather than that individual's take on whatever the issue happens to be.

I wouldn't want to be associated with anything coming from Trump fans. We need to build our own women's organisations, probably quite a few of them, as different people here have different views. And find our own ways to get our messages across.
