Talking about the GRA consultation and how the thousands of responses so far show a 'real desire for reform'.

OP posts:
boatyardblues · 17/10/2018 19:59

Well, yes - if she takes account of all the GC responses suggesting repeal of the GRA as well as the pro self-ID responses, that’s probably fair comment. Otherwise, it sounds like the decision is already made and the consultation is a sham.

Imnobody4 · 17/10/2018 20:01

FFS the woman is on another planet. I thought the GRA results were being looked at by an independent body so how does she know 'there's a real desire for reform' .

TwistedStitch · 17/10/2018 20:03

Ah perhaps I misunderstood- maybe she means the fact that there have been so many responses shows desire for reform. Not the content of the responses.

OP posts:
transdimensional · 17/10/2018 20:07

I don't think you misunderstood. Although "reform" could in theory mean making it harder to get a GRC, it's quite clear she means reform to make it easier to get one, given the context, the audience and the fact that Mordant has already said as much to TR activists. Not to mention the fact that the entire consultation was promised on making things easier and they tried to discourage GC responses by even having the first two questions specifically directed at transgender respondents so others couldn't answer them.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 20:09

And the fact it's been rigged since day one too, that helps them know the outcome.

rightreckoner · 17/10/2018 20:11

WTF is she doing there and preempting the consultation? Well we know but wtf?

Melamin · 17/10/2018 20:11

Oh dear, she couldn't make a personal appearance this year.

What is the desperation of politicians to get Pink News awards? Do they have any readership? They don't get much interaction on twitter. What are they? Where do they get all this money for awards from? Who decides these awards? Why does the PM make a personal message (and not Equalities) when she is in the middle of some sort of Brexit Crisis?

BareBelliedSneetch · 17/10/2018 20:12

I’m GC, and don’t believe anyone not born female can become female. I also don’t consider myself transphobic. I’m not sure some activists would agree with me there, but whatever...

I think there does need to be a reform. I think have an entirely unknown panel make a decision without even meeting people is desperately unfair. But I also don’t agree with self ID. For many reasons. So yes to reform. But not necessarily making it easier.

Serfisafleur · 17/10/2018 20:13

She's hardly going to stand there in front of the P* news crowd and say
"Hmm, sorry but we're going to reconsider the whole thing". Politicians lie. It's their job.

Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they ditch the GC responses and plough on with self-ID anyway. I honestly wouldn't be surprised because they can do what they want.

Can we get the results ourselves under the Freedom of Information act?

How do we know they are results and not "results"?

I'm quite paranoid. They'll do anything to keep the spin that GC views are a "minority" even when they aren't.

pombear · 17/10/2018 20:17

Does no one in the government do due diligence any more?

Did noone say "Theresa, maybe not, this year, given this publication's narrowing lens of articles and subject focus? They seem to have left LGB behind."

(Or are the knives so explicitly out behind the scenes right now and chuckling at her continuing bonkers allegiances?!)

Maybe next year's Furscience furscience.com/ could launch some awards, in the spirit of increasing understanding and decreasing stigma and Theresa could rock up on a video for them?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 20:19

Someone very powerful wants this to happen it's clearly going to happen

pombear · 17/10/2018 20:21

PS: I'm aware that furscience.com/ is a likely parody.

If it's not, we're all fucked!

Though, actually, digging through their archives...we're all fucked!

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/10/2018 20:22

I am getting real strange vibes from this. I wonder whether she has promised self-ID to someone, and maybe now is trying to show she might push forward despite opposition? Or (in my own hopeful interpretation) she is reminding the PinkNews crowd that she is thinking about them, even if self-ID won't be politically feasible later?
It all feels very off...
Penny and Theresa seem absolutely desperate to make "trans women are women" a true statement which can be easily legally attained by a simple online form.
The question is, why?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 20:27

May was very Anti-gay in the past maybe she thinks this will be a solution.

transdimensional · 17/10/2018 20:29

Barebelliedsneetch,
Re the panel deciding on someone without meeting them. That has now been addressed by Jay v Secretary of State. The judgment says that the panel must always consider whether a hearing (meeting the applicant in person) is necessary. ( www.cloisters.com/images/M_Jay_v_Sec_of_State_for_Justice_2018_EWHC_2620_Fam_003.pdf para 95)

PackingSoap · 17/10/2018 20:31

If it does go forward, it will be a cultural version of the Poll Tax.

TerfedOff · 17/10/2018 20:35

Hmmmm.

Backing away I think.

There's no votes for the Tories from the young woke LGBT crowd.

Imnobody4 · 17/10/2018 20:35

Who in cabinet could have this much power - it's not influence -it's power to drive this on with a single minded obsession. Anyone involved with

Yogyakarta Principles or close to someone who was?

BesmirchingMotherhood · 17/10/2018 20:43

She’s not a natural orator, is she? Jeez.

TwistedStitch · 17/10/2018 20:48

Or maybe she is oblivious to the GC arguments going on, women's objections etc and just assumes all the responses will be gushy TWAW types? Who knows. Pink News are an embarrassment though. The only responses I ever see to their tweets are mocking.

FesteringCarbuncle · 17/10/2018 21:04

Why is a GRC even needed now?
It was created as a legal fiction so transexuals could marry, a homophobic law
There is no danger in this country being out as trans so no need to 'pass'
Keep sex as a definor and let individuals live as they wish

scepticalwoman · 17/10/2018 21:05

I don't think May has a clue about what's happening. Just keeping the Brexit train falling off the cliff is her full time job. This will have been written by the same in house woke fools who wrote her last disastrous speech, (and who brief Penny Mordaunt et al) - and they have much invested in her promoting trans over women's rights.

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 21:08

Anne Ruzylo @Sargesalute
