Just canvassing other's opinions really, I won't name the town for now but there is a new building in my town and the layout for the toilets are as follows. So the actual toilets are fully enclosed and have sinks although they are tiny. To access the toilets though you have to go into a waiting area like most single sex toilets, however and the doors are heavy and have no window in them (no windows in toilets either). My concern is that it would be so easy for an assault to take place as it would be easy to block women from getting out, there is only one access point and the doors open inwards. The building has gone from having 12 single sex toilets (6 in each) to 3 mixed sex ones total. If a child goes in on their own, there is nothing to show on the door that they are mixed sex unless you are in there as the sign on the door just looks like it could be a corridor. It really concerns me, I honestly think it is a disaster waiting to happen! I feel that it would be much safer if the toilets had been built with the doors facing out onto a public area for safety. I think it is ridiculous that the town planners haven't seen he risk this poses to women and do you think anything can be done as they are built now?!
