Easyjet and girlguides. Any gender can be a pilot

Easyjet has teamed up with girlguides to show girls they can be anything, including a pilot.

Fantastic. Except they say "Any gender".

And how does telling girls they can do historically male jobs fit with believing that liking girls things makes someone a girl? Surely if you like "masculine" things like plans you must be a boy? I just don't get how girlguides can reconcile their message on what girls can achieve with their views on transgender identify.

On the one hand, we have gender stereotypes that are so utterly pervasive that we have to have campaigns to educate young people that it is actually possible for girls to be pilots.

On the other hand, we have the concept of ‘gender identity’, proponents of which expouse that children know their gender innately, and entirely independently from the stereotypes children are steeped in.

If boys and girls can do the same things why change gender?

Any gender can be a pilot. Great. What about sex?

Gender and sex are interchangeable, stop making something out of nothing

James, James, James, don’t be silly. Sex is reality, gender is just made up bollocksery. Men can’t magically change into women. Women can’t magically change into men. Both men and women can suffer from various forms of discomfort due to either the physical presentation of their sex, or the bollocks gender rules that but jobs assign to sex. Some of them are treated (medically/ psychologically) by something we call ‘transitioning’. It’s a treatment to help them feel more comfortable in their bodies and social presentations.
It doesn’t mean that magically anyone has changed sex.
People who believe that gender presentation (habits, clothes, hobbies, mannerisms and personalities) actually is the same thing as their sex are regressive and a bit hard of thinking.

It's a positive thing by easyJet. They do have a fair amount of female pilots, so it's not just lip service.
Shame they used the wrong word, but the fact they are trying to show girls they can be pilots too is the main thing.

But, but... how can I know, which gender I am, once the terms like ‚girl toys‘ and ,girl profession‘ lose their meanings?

Longdistance if this is your DDs brownie group you should certainly be looking more deeply into what's happening with girl guides. I'm sure you can find a few threads about it

Well, quite frankly, the subject bores me.

My dd’s go to Brownies, I have a flying background. I also have a friend who’s dd has changed careers from a crappy office job in London, to becoming a trainee (First Officer) pilot for EasyJet.

If you look that deeply into the wording of an encouraging article about females becoming pilots, I suggest you get a hobby, or a life 🙄
