Excellent piece. I love that JK wrote this:

"Words matter. The word ‘woman’ matters. Some people say that word is under attack, by a movement that wants to remove it from the language, and the law, with all that that implies for the people it describes. When I first heard that warning, I didn’t listen. I’m listening now. You should too."

great update at the end

HandsOffMyRights · 10/10/2018 17:53

Thanks again James.

Would you please consider asking MN to edit the title of the thread to include the title of the article please?

They have been happy to do this on oher threads.

There have been a number of threads about great articles by James Kirkup and it can be really helpful for those reading to know which is which.

VickyEadie · 10/10/2018 18:07

It's good. Some pathetic comments underneath from the usual suspect-type blokes blaming feminists for it all, however - the 'you've brought it on yourselves by being pushy and not wanting to be assaulted!' notion.

Has anyone got a share token? I'm up to my limit with free articles at the moment.

InfidelForever · 10/10/2018 18:14

R0wantrees, I do not know how to do that, but please feel free to ask on my behalf

I have just subscribed to the Spectator thanks to James Kirkup's articles. There's an update at the end of this article:

Update:

Since this piece was written, the Wellcome Collection has changed its mind and issued this admirably honest and reasonable statement:

‘We invite challenges to our thinking and we listen to our audience, which is why we’ve taken the decision to remove the word womxn from our website and communications about the Daylighting event. We’re sorry that we made the wrong call.’

Someone there is listening to women, it seems. It can only be hoped that others do the same.

Yet another great article from James Kirkup. And how bloody refreshing to see that update.

Another great piece, thanks James! Female erasure, indeed...

Is that James Kirkup the poet? I’ve been teaching his work.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 22:06

He did it again. Thanks James.
