This is fucking shocking. What is our society doing to girls and young women?

The article manages to almost avoid stating this is attack's on girls by boys and men except when it talks of "support boys and men to change their attitudes and challenge harassment ". WTF? Why can't it just be called out for what it is?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 08/10/2018 12:23

X post placemats Smile

bigKiteFlying · 08/10/2018 12:23

Not sure if school uniform is the determining factor.

This bit of post got eaten by soemthing - but yea its' not the actual uniform.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/10/2018 12:24

I wonder where all the posters on Mumsnet who believe that 13/14 year old girls look like 18 years are now?

Ha yeah.

I mean anyone in uniform is blatantly 16 or under. Many have different colour ties or shirts for different years so it wouldn't be hard to work out the age bracket of the girls

This completely proves that even when wearing the exact uniform, no make up, trousers or skirts, it still happens.

Invalidates the excuse that they look older or are being allowed to dress to old or whatever.

It happens. It's not the girls fault and there's fuck all you can do to stop it

0ccamsRazor · 08/10/2018 12:25

Betty I think that I may have just fallen in love a little bit with your dh.

Fucking men, leave our girls alone.

My dd is 15, super curvy, tall and slim, from the age of 10 men would stare at her. They still do, but she spends her life in her bubble and ignores the fucking paedos. Have pressed upon her to carry a small can of deodorant or hair spray (as pepper spray is not legal in the UK) just in case, also a small crystal ball in a sock (home made monkey paw) as not long ago she was watching true crimes videos and freaked out at the amount of sexual abuse that is metted out to women and girls. She asked me to get a gps tracker for her to wear! She was really distressed. We agreed to find the track my phone function on her phone.

I am so sick of the violence towards females.

0ccamsRazor · 08/10/2018 12:28

Yy to the uniform, school uniform = child

Couldn't be any clearer could it?

Entitled fucking cunts.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 08/10/2018 12:34

Have R2 on now will be interesting if anyone has the fuck&£g gall to even attempt to justify this

Giles absolutely nails it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/10/2018 12:47

I don't usually listen to Jeremy vine so I can't tell. Is his tone usually so "unsure" he doesn't appear to sound convinced really.

Was cross at the repeated use of the word gender. Needed stronger mention of the fact it's men. It was presented in a way that exonerates most men and even cast doubt it was men at all. There are hundreds of schools and thousands upon thousands of school girls it's not a small handful of men doing it all is it.

Agree Giles, the second guest did eventually say "guys" but only toward the end Confused

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/10/2018 12:53
Angry

It's not the fucking skirts

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 08/10/2018 12:54

The predictable "but the skirts are sooo short" harasser-apologist comments trickling through.
Last comment was along lines of time to hold men who do this accountable,

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/10/2018 12:55

I can't believe that coach driver ...he shouldn't be any where near children. I hope he's sacked

placemats · 08/10/2018 12:56

It is thousands of men doing this. Every day. To girls in uniform going to school to get an education.

It's outrageous.

It's also sad that thousands of women are going to bed each night with perverted men.

You can't keep them safe wearing trousers. Don't you get it...

Earlywalker · 08/10/2018 13:06

I’m surprised it’s that low, I used to get it in my uniform a lot, I was followed and on one occasion grabbed by a stranger.

I remember walking my sister in her uniform I was around 20, she was about 14 and a man of about 45 asked for her number. Safe to say he got a mouthful about his attitude, I think it was the repressed feelings I had about it all coming out. At the time, although scared I weirdly didn’t see it as an issue.

It is not trousers, it is the attitude that women are objects to be claimed. Vile, but if you called the police on something like this - realistically what would happen?

CaramelAngel · 08/10/2018 13:10

The skirt the HT bought them in the DM link looks like something worn by US fundamentalist Christians who wear modest clothing Confused

BertrandRussell · 08/10/2018 13:14

I thought the reports said two thirds-not a third.....

NothingOnTellyAgain · 08/10/2018 13:19

Just wanted to clear up the school uniform thing.

The report is not saying school uniforms are to blame >> it is flagging school uniform stats as then they are obviously a schoolgirl.

MORE girls have experienced harassment out of school uniform > it increases from 1/3 to 2/3 of children.

66% of girls in the UK said they had experienced unwanted sexual attention or sexual or physical contact in a public place
35% of girls reported receiving unwanted sexual contact such as being touched, groped or grabbed
Girls as young as eight years old described witnessing or experiencing harassment
More than one in three girls received unwanted sexual attention such as being groped, stared at, catcalled and wolf-whistled while wearing school uniform
One-quarter of girls said they had been filmed or photographed by a stranger without permission

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/10/2018 13:20

It is.

So many people so sure they can prevent this. My dd wears a knee length skirt. My dd will be wearing trousers.

No wonder it's so common cos men are always excused from their behaviour . It's the girls fault. Except now schools have anti roll skirts, and don't allow skinny trousers has it stopped? No!

In fact head teachers are now fucking joining in instead of teaching the boys to behave.

They really are going to find out the hard way that even when you dress in what others perceive as conservatively you get it. Hell I was offered money in a coat done up from shins to neck

Don't put this on your girls it's not their fault. It's men.ajd they will do it whether they are walking in their underwear or whether you send them to school in a sleeping bag with holes cut out for feet.

FlowersAndHerts · 08/10/2018 13:23

I've just been reading the comments in The Times. There're truly some horrid trollish comments there. So depressing.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 08/10/2018 13:26

Multiple things here but the main problem is that many men register / see a female body any time after puberty has phsically strarted (curves / breasts) as "fair game" or even when they are just over a certain height ("old enough").

Plus the intense sexualisation of school age girls in our society including a general sociatal view of any girl over about 12 who is being accosted / groomed / flashed at / raped even as "asking for it". Girls from this age are presented in many situations as adult, manipulative, asking for it, sexually "knowing" or experienced, while the men abusing them are painted as innocents, or victims, how could they be expected to resist?

Massive problems to do with male entitlement, men thinking girls are "fair game" from WAY too young... And TBH they shouldn't be doing this stuff to older women either as it's shit, they often target younger girls as they will be more likely to give a satisfactory reaction (if the man even waits for one) > confusion, embarrassment, fear, and less likely to tell them to fuck off and call the police.

Although lots of people in the UK also thing that e.g. a schoolgirl aged 12 getting men shouting obscenities at her or following her is not and should not be criminal, it's for girls and women to somehow "manage" ie "society" that amorphous mass of generalised opinion, does not care really what happens to girls this age unless they are actually murdered. And sometimes not even then, if they are the "wrong" sort of girls.

And this is on men. It was common when I was young, seems hasn't changed. Society needs to stop seeing this as AOK and fine and girls shouldn't make a fuss about nothing and maybe it's banter or fun or can't they take a compliment etc.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 08/10/2018 13:30

It's nothing to do with clothes.

Nothing to do AT ALL.

It's to do with the bodies underneath, to do with these children being identifiable as A female and B over about 12 (usually, could be younger).

And they have to have an investigation to work out why binders and wanting to be read as male are on the massive rise among girls? Join the dots and get a fucking clue, dimwits. When I was young girls starved themselves and wore baggy clothes to try and escape the male gaze, now they bind their breasts and "present" as male. Same difference (although I'm sure some have sex dysphoria, this is a much smaller number). GENDER dysphoria >> is a perfectly rational reaction in the face of this. Who wants to be a girl when you have to navigate this shit? It's scary, it always was, and it reduces you every daty drip drip drip that you're not a person you're a piece of flesh with fuckholes as far as men are concerned.
