This is just brilliant.

But since Newnham claims to still be an all female college, yet accepts male students if they've changed their driving licence details to female (much like ManFriday did) I'm wondering how long it will be before this sculpture is condemned as literal violence...

Viva la Vulva

Haha how long before the swooning and 'vulva must fall' petitions?

PositivelyPERF · 07/10/2018 23:04

Wow. I’ll be waiting for the screaming TRAs to arrive. That artwork is actually beautiful. When I read the title I thought it was going to be one of those embarrassing ‘aren’t I so shocking’ pieces, but that’s fabulous.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/10/2018 23:04

clever, so many things in one sculture.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 07/10/2018 23:05

My sister was at Newnham, she talks very fondly of her time there.

Viva la Vulva?

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 07/10/2018 23:06

Posted too soon.

Viva la Vulva? Surely this cannot be allowed? Surely this will be protested?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2018 23:14

I thought Newnham did still (though who knows for how much longer) still require an actual GRC?

Letshopeitsallok · 07/10/2018 23:19

That’s surprisingly tasteful. Sometimes vulva stuff can be a bit cringy (anyone remember vagina bike taxi?)

Nope

passport or driving licence will do

So if there were still men only colleges at Oxbridge (I think the last one changed a couple of years ago), I wonder if a passport or driving licence amendment would be sufficient to be considered for admission? 🤔

Barracker · 07/10/2018 23:59

Perhaps even just wearing a pair of trousers and pencilling on a comedy tache three days a week a la Pips Bunce stylee might be enough. It is 2018 yanno.

Seriously, I doubt that's quite how it's going in reality. They can reject or pool applicants they don't think will fit in without any explanation - and most Cambridge applicants are rejected.

Maybe the sculpture serves as a test... anyone who's horrified by it should go elsewhere?Grin

InfidelForever · 08/10/2018 00:45

Why oh why do you praise a sculpture of intimate female anatomy? Would you be jumping up and down with glee at a huge phallic symbol (circumcised or otherwise) in the middle of Millenium Gardens in Sheffield? I despair at the lack of moral decency

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2018 01:00

I find the Cerne Abbas Giant decidedly amusing, though I'm not sure if it's 'art'.Grin

teaandtoast · 08/10/2018 01:24

'Moral decency.' 😂

InfidelForever · 08/10/2018 01:30

Glad you find it amusing @teaandtoast - maybe your views are part of the problem? What is wrong with decency - surely your views are supposed to stand up for dignity and privacy, yet you laugh when people object to the same privacy and dignity being applauded in sculpture?

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2018 01:32

If you're despairing about that (I bet a lot of people never even realise what it is) then for goodness sakes avoid the Cambridge museum of archaeology and anthropology, which has some, er, interesting roman pottery.

An acquaintance of mine went on holiday to Iceland a couple of years ago, and they stumbled across a penis museum.

Apparently it was full of all manner of historical phallic symbols.

Not sure where that stands on moral decency grounds. Maybe the museum bit makes it more acceptable?

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2018 01:53

I heard that mentioned on radio 4 recently, hope

Do you think michaelangelo's David etc should have fig leaves added, infidel?

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 08/10/2018 02:01

So it seems non of the three women's only colleges are actually that. How disappointing. Atleast Newham demand official documents, the other two will accept your word for it 😒

Fantastic sculpture, the detail of the figure in the centre is quite captivating.

Oh, here are some phallic sculptures, for those pissed off that we are enjoying a vulva one.

TinyRick · 08/10/2018 02:46

Can imagine a shocked and flustered Infidel if they ever went to Kanamara Matsuri in Japan 😅

noeffingidea · 08/10/2018 07:26

Don't drive through Cerne Abbas , Infidelforever Grin

Barracker · 08/10/2018 10:07

Have you ventured a peep at the sculpture InfidelForever?
