TRANS ‘HIJACK’
Sir, Further to Lucy Bannerman’s Thunderer (Oct 1), the rights and freedoms of a small group of genuine dysphoria sufferers are being hijacked by the “transgender activists” who rely on online bullies and trolls, most of whom are pursuing their own agenda, enforcing harmful gender stereotypes, threatening opponents and blurring the definitions of “trans” and “transgender”. Unlike transsexuals they do not seek common ground with women, dictating instead new language, new laws and punishments for those who disagree with them, and even imposing new definitions of the words “woman” and “female”, dismissing biology and reality.

Transsexuals changing themselves to integrate into society were seeking basic human equality, unlike trans activists who are trying to force society to reinvent itself around their beliefs and demands. This behaviour is disrespectful, unfair, causes transphobic attitudes within society and will get worse if the government and mainstream corporations continue to offer unquestioning support to trans activists.

Great letter Amanda, thanks for writing in!

PimmsnLemonade · 03/10/2018 00:26

It's a letter further down the same page. I wouldn't try to subject you to Michael Gove unnecessarily, honestly.

There's also an article on Leeds Council cancelling Woman's Place UK's meeting on Friday:

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/leeds-council-bars-women-s-group-a-womans-place-accused-of-transphobia-jxh0rs8mj

I was going to post this in the original thread about the cancellation but the Feminism board is so busy I'm struggling to find it!

Very well said

homoseXXualmum · 03/10/2018 04:27

Amazing. This is a much needed exposure of the voices of transsexual people just wanting to blend in quietly and live their lives that most alliest think they are actually supporting.

Goposie · 03/10/2018 05:44

If this carries on I will have to get a subscription!

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 03/10/2018 05:57

Thank you Amanda Dee

What is sad is that Stonewall seems to have been taken over by TRAs. So not there to represent lesbian or transexual voices. I wonder whether there are stirrings of discont amonst gay men as well.

I also think the disabled and racial minorities ought to be alarmed at the extent to which the focus of diversity and equality activity in the workplace etc has become focussed on trans issues. Bristol University spending £3.4 million on gender neutral loos when its annual welfare budget, despite serious and well pulicised MH problems within their student body, is only £1 million pa. Plus lots of cotton etc ceilings in the workplace.

I agree.
TRAs are bad news for everyone other than (largely) white men who are interested in biological women.

BlooperReel · 03/10/2018 07:05

Excellent letter, it’s about time the voices of ‘old school’ transexuals were heard in the mainstream media

Regressionconfession · 03/10/2018 07:05

Wow!!! Thank you Amanda!

NicoAndTheNiners · 03/10/2018 07:06

I’ve been saying this for a long time. That the “old style” type transsexuals are suffering from this wave of TRA craziness. I hope they speak out more.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 03/10/2018 07:08

Well said Amanda Star
I have been very happy to share my space with you historically and I have been concerned for you in the shit storm caused by the TRA’s.
I’m glad you’ve found a voice

RepealtheGRA · 03/10/2018 07:20

Well done Amanda Star I think I know who you are from twitter. Well done for speaking up and sorry you are being targeted along with the rest of us for the ‘hate crime’ of defending your own rights.

MoltenLasagne · 03/10/2018 07:46

Need more sleep That is such a good point - what funds do they have for ethnic minorities or student parents or disabled access if they've spent 3 years worth of funding in gender neutral toilets?!

TheWholeHog · 03/10/2018 07:47

Thank you, Amanda, that was brave.

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2018 07:50

needmoresleep my gay friends were the first in my circle of friends to raise their concerns about this, saying that trans issues had nothing in common with LGB issues and that it was all about access to medical care and bathrooms. Also the first to see the homophobia inherent in some people's characterisation of being trans, ie. if you are female and like females, you must be a man rather than a lesbian.

PositiveVibez · 03/10/2018 07:52

Brilliant Amanda. I really do hope your voice is heard. Bravo.

RiverTam · 03/10/2018 07:55

Amanda is right in that I, and lots of other women, have hardened our stance to ‘no male people in women’s spaces, ever’. Because the bottom line is that in order for a transsexual to access women’s spaces it still involves deceit, being able to deceive women sufficiently that they won’t notice or at least won’t be sure what they’re seeing.

The targeting that transsexuals are getting is different from that which women are and shouldn’t be aligned with it. Transsexuals are losing their ‘in’ to women’s spaces. Women are losing their legal right to those spaces. Not the same thing at all.

Needmoresleep · 03/10/2018 07:58

Lasagne, presumably the money will come from a different budget thetab.com/uk/bristol/2018/09/13/bristol-university-to-introduce-gender-neutral-bathrooms-in-all-buildings-34168 but there seems to be a clear divergence between SU priorities and those of students themselves, who are very concerned about the availability of welfare support.

Ditto people working for woke organisations might feel happier using , diversity training to consier barriers faced by fellow employees and how to neutralise them, rather than some of the stuff delivered by Stonewall or its diaspora. A bloke who choses to wear a dress twice a week still has male advantage. A disabled bloke in a dress probably faces more barriers because of his disability.

FlippinFumin · 03/10/2018 08:00

if you are female and like females, you must be a man rather than a lesbian

Do you know, all this time we have been discussing this, this is the first time I have seen it worded this way, and it makes it even more sinister. It is erasure of women, pure and simple.
