It is patronising drivel. Wiseman is just one of the many pointless female opionion piece writers The Guardian and The Observer use.

I gave up reading most of them around the time Kathryn Flett (Flanagan) was boring everyone to tears about getting divorced and being Kathryn Flett again about a fortnight after she was married and had previously been boring on about getting married.

Frankly reading the article by Jeremy Clarkson in today's Sunday Times on why Sylvia the musical was a crap idea is a better use of one's time.

And for the record, I didn't see the point of Lucy Mangan.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/09/2018 21:26

Mumsnet is her secret pleasure. Like someone who sneaks into Greggs

My secret pleasure is the Ronnie van Zandt version of Lynyrd Skynyrd- now that really is an admission. ( in mitigation that version of the band were supporters of Jimmy Carter and gun control)

pachyderm · 23/09/2018 21:32

hackmum I do. They ate her liver, with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

The Cool Girls have this weird retro image of mothers as stout bovine types in floral pinnies with clothespegs in the side of our mouths and no other thoughts in our heads but the shepherd's pie in the oven and potty training. Even the ones who have kids themselves; it's like "mums" doesn't include them because they are different and special, not part of the common herd. It's disappointing and very antifeminist.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 23/09/2018 21:42

jaysus

i wish i was a special woman like eva

one who understands that other people can read what i write on mumsnet and it's not top secret

instead i'm just a bovine, ordinary mother

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/09/2018 21:42

And her picture hasn't changed in years

Good, point

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/09/2018 21:55

And on the topic of Guardian female hacks here is Deborah Orr wittering on about Fenella Fielding. ( it's the Indie but her natural habitat is The Guardian)I'm not criticising the praise for Fenella Fielding - it's the patronising tone of "gosh- who'd a thunk there was more to FF than what I in my wisdom allowed" ?

Well me , for one with you telling me Mrs Self. (And I have zero interest in you airing your squabbling with Mr Self)

pachyderm · 23/09/2018 22:06

I wouldn't put Deborah Orr in the same category as the woke women at all - totally different generation and background. And a decent journalist.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/09/2018 22:21

I find Deborah Orr just as irritating as the rest of them.

KERALA1 · 23/09/2018 22:30

Pachyderm nails it absolutely.

Eva if you are reading you are no different to any of us bar the fact that you inexplicably have a column in a newspaper which I used to read. If anyone is dangerously putting themselves out there it is you. We are anonymous you are not. Durrr

AngryAttackKittens · 24/09/2018 10:27

Nah, she's trying to pretend to actually care about women who aren't her.

It's not working. Particularly for those familiar with her previous writing.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/09/2018 10:33

The Cool Girls have this weird retro image of mothers as stout bovine types in floral pinnies with clothespegs in the side of our mouths and no other thoughts in our heads but the shepherd's pie in the oven and potty training.

I used to know someone like this. She was convinced that she was not like all the other (boring, un-kinky, unfeminist) mums because she started dyeing her hair Manic Panic colors in her 40s.

Potplant2 · 24/09/2018 10:38

That article really annoyed me. “The secret life of women”, FFS. Like we’re some rare and exotic species with bizarre and unfathomable ways, not over half the human race who happen to use messageboards to talk about anything and everything that interests us.

Definitely cool girl stuff. Look at me, I’m clever and interesting and not like all those silly airhead women who only talk about birth and breastfeeding!

Mumsnet is one of the most intelligent corners of the web, and anyone who’s spent any time at all on here knows we talk about anything and everything. The fact that misogynistic newspapers only pick up on certain themes like sexual weirdnesses or sharing about periods, isn’t a fair representation of the site. Not that there’s anything wrong with talking about those things either.

hackmum · 24/09/2018 10:39

Laughing out loud at pachyderm's imagine of the "stout bovine types in floral pinnies". There's a whole debate to be had about why young women hate mothers so much.

I quite like Deborah Orr. She was sacked by the Guardian when they relaunched as a tabloid and my understanding is she doesn't have much income at the moment, especially since her acrimonious split with Self.

pachyderm · 24/09/2018 11:36

This is me right now

I like Deborah too. Especially as she has decided to spill the beans on her split with Selfish.

"Lurch" Grin

Now there's a woman who doesn't give a fuck anymore.

Floisme · 24/09/2018 12:06

I'd much rather have a night out with Ena, Martha and Minnie than with Eva Wiseman and her coolgirl Guardian chums (Hadley Freeman excepted).

speakingwoman · 24/09/2018 12:17

Ah well. I still like Eva. Part of the fun of this board is that we don't all speak with one voice.

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 24/09/2018 12:18

I'd buy Hadley a drink any time.

placemats · 24/09/2018 12:33

Lurch. Yes Pacyderm

placemats · 24/09/2018 12:35

Shellfish often cling to the rocks they land on.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/09/2018 12:37

JFC the woman trying to guilt trip Orr into not making jokes about the divorce process because it's bad for the family.

There is no family. Like the parrot in the Monty Python sketch, it has expired. Now all that's left is for Lurch to stop pissing all over the corpse (and Orr's boundaries) and fuck off.

LassWiADelicateAir · 24/09/2018 13:05

I have no sympathy at all for Deborah Orr. She is whinging about Will Self wanting his share of the house they jointly own.

He has moved out but she is aghast at the prospect it might have to be sold. There is nothing unreasonable in his asking for the house to be sold.

Her thousands of followers then pitched in with their support, and Ms Orr detailed further unreasonable behaviour by Mr Self, who she claims has compelled her to put their home on the market for around £1.5million

Their marriage broke down three years ago, and she now feels forced to sell it to halve the proceeds with him. He now rents a nearby former council flat.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 24/09/2018 13:06

I tried to read one of WS's books once and that was bad enough. Orr should get some sort of endurance medal
