Transsexual is now "offensive" within the trans community...?

This was posted as triggering examples of transphobia. I haven't included the actual screenshots as they didn't add much apart from identifying info.

Someone on tinder asks if the OP is "ts" (transsexual) or a "cd" (cross dresser), because they are into that.

OP then goes on to explain how transsexual is now offensive/dehumanising/a porno term.

I'm sure there is a whole community of transsexual people out there who would protest quite strongly about their sexualised pigeonholing and/or erasure...

I'll just continue saying man in a dress then.

Eresh I give up - is it triggering to read that some think non-binary identities are not true trans?

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 11:53

Eresh - where have you seen it? On twitter?

ShotsFired · 21/09/2018 11:54

@RomanyRoots I'll just continue saying man in a dress then

tbh you could lose the last 4 words of that sentence and it would still be accurate.

Yes I think that will be it!

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 11:57

On the Trans Media Watch twitter account they put out daily trigger warnings for readers eg 'warning: today's stories covered in the press include transphobia' etc. One of the things they warn for as triggering, is stories about 'pregnancy'. I kid you not.

Racecardriver · 21/09/2018 11:59

I thought a transsexuals was someone who had undergone a sex change surgery and complimentary hormonal treatment? As opposed to someone who was merely undergoing a social transition.

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 12:28

It is, but it's verboten to make the distinction in case someone notices that most transwomen have dicks they don't plan on losing.

DuckingGoodPJs · 21/09/2018 12:36

Racecar, the transsexuals were traditionally gay males who adopted female appearance (up to full surgery, but not always, ie ladyboys)

Charlie I disagree that gay men have been targeted at this stage. They are saving them until last.

Charliethefeminist · 21/09/2018 12:45

Yes you are probably right.

Those alerts are about as ridiculous as the vegan alerts for films I have been seeing on a fb group (as in "shows cheese" type stuff).

Perhaps I misunderstood - and maybe it's because I couldn't get through all the drivel on SJWiki but, according to that entry, Harry Benjamin was basically a proponent of laydee brain - and the fact that trans women had it. No?
But this angers the SJWs writing the entry as it is 'cissexist' (as opposed to actual sexist - which is what it really is).

But if it isn't the desire for a female body, and the perceived wrongness of their male body, that makes a trans woman a woman; and it isn't the belief that they have the brain of a woman that makes them a woman ... how exactly are they claiming to be women?

I mean 'feelz', sure ... but doesn't that come in under laydeebrain? - which is so 'cissexist' an idea it is worthy of a trigger warning... I just don't get it.
If it's a non-binary issue - then surely this is just the dogma eating itself, non-binaries and mtfs/ftms can't really exist in the space reality because they stand for completely opposing ideologies. And they have to try and support each other because ... trans umbrella - but, they end up shitting all over their own arguments.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/09/2018 20:05

Transsexual = someone who has surgery to 'change sex' (I know that isn't really possible).

Transgender = transsexuals, but also anyone who identifies with the gender they weren't 'assigned at birth'. A much wider term.

I had a thought about 'cis'.

If 'cis' means accepting your own body - not having a strong sense that your anatomy is wrong and you want to 'change sex' - that means a lot of people claiming to be trans are actually cis.

If 'cis' means accepting the gender stereotypes associated with your biological sex, that means a lot of people, especially women, aren't cis. So they are non-binary or trans, but they would certainly reject that label.

Either way, 'cis' doesn't work as a definition.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/09/2018 20:31

None of it makes sense.

But why the people who want to make being trans all about feelings and not about dysphoria would take offence at the doctor who had advocated that these feelings were real 'because brain sex' is just beyond me.

If the idea of 'brain sex' is so offensive to non-binaries that it requires a trigger warning - then non-binaries have no place under the trans umbrella; because that position is in direct opposition to 'I always wanted long hair' 'I undid the poppers on my babygro to make a dress' 'I liked playing with dolls and painting my nails... ergo my brain is female ergo so am I.'

If the anti HBSers continue down their route of claiming it is offensive to suggest you have a female brain in a male body, I can't see how they're not going to end up gunning for the likes of Riley J Dennis.
And that would surely be the dogma eating itself.

How indeed?

Its like there is an angry, over-tired toddler behind all these completely irrational, conflicting and quite demented outbursts.
