Only a very, very brief mention but worth noting. He is on Twitter if anyone wants to comment.

I’m not on Twitter, but this doesn’t surprise me.

He’s also right about Rees-Mogg. I dislike his politics and many of his social stances (never changed a nappy? Useless..) and I’d happily tell him why and and argue it with him. But to abuse his kids or him in front of his kids is taking things out of the public sphere into the private and family.

A little toe dipped in the water. The coverage is changing isn’t it? Bit by bit.

I assume Giles will not be on the receiving end of a Twitter mob’s ire, because he’s Male.

silentcrow · 15/09/2018 14:02

Not a single comment about that line. I wonder if it went over people's heads, or got a snort at the silliness of the situation with no appreciation of what it may cost to have included it?

KatVonGulag · 15/09/2018 14:29

Ian Bone the class war silly man who did this, was a big supporter of "tara" wolf. (Tara being the person that hit a 60 year old woman for the evil crime of wanting to talk about women's rights)

Ian Bone and his merry men in black went to the pub to celebrate "Tara" being found guilty of hitting a woman. Then shat themselves and called the police when all the gender critical feminists went into the same pub afterwards.

How terrifying. Bless their hearts.

Sometimes you couldn't make this stuff up.

R0wantrees · 15/09/2018 14:43

extract from the article:

"I don’t agree with Mogg about anything political. Nobody does. But I do think it’s quite important to have ancient religious, social and political orthodoxies expressed by senior politicians in the modern era so that we can continue to think about and challenge them. Throw out everything that anyone thought before July 2018 and you’re just another NUS gender rep determined to put a urinal in the ladies’ loo because, after all, most women have penises."

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/09/2018 15:03

Not a single comment about that line.

I somehow can’t see many woke warriors being huge followers of his. He tends to be eloquently blunt in his views...

And of course he’s Male, so where’s the fun in attacking him, eh?

TransposersArePosers · 15/09/2018 15:13

I missed that bit in the article R0wantrees, having skim read, so was a bit confused as to why people thought it was GC. Thanks for pointing it out

LangCleg · 15/09/2018 15:27

Then shat themselves and called the police when all the gender critical feminists went into the same pub afterwards.

This is my favourite thing that ever happened.

Anti-carceral my arse.

FloralBunting · 15/09/2018 15:36

Am I lowering the tone too much if I just add the comment 'Yum'? I'm all out of clever analysis today.

FermatsTheorem · 15/09/2018 15:43

Then shat themselves and called the police when all the gender critical feminists went into the same pub afterwards.

Another one ROFL-ing at that one.

GulagMilkMonitor · 15/09/2018 19:14

Grin WTF?
They called the police?!

KatVonGulag · 15/09/2018 19:36

Yup. It was all over MayDay for Women Facebook page. I think it must have been true because suddenly Class War tried to distance themselves from the event. It was another bunch of wallies apparently because they were in Dover. Shame Ian Bone had shared a photo of "Tara" celebrating in the pub with them all. Grin

hipsterfun · 15/09/2018 19:56

If only the insufferable Giles, whose achievements have all been entirely on his own merits, wasn’t using the issue as a way in to talking about himself.

2BorNot2Bvocal · 15/09/2018 23:35

I like the way it's just tucked in there as an almost casual remark.

I hope there is more disparaging humour but I'd really like to see someone like Katherine Ryan let rip for a few minutes on a stage somewhere. If only Have I Got News For You was currently on air.

If you can get hold of tickets for the current League of Gentlemen live tour, you may find your wish is granted. Wink

The gender critical position would seem to be the common sense one to hold, since clearly women don’t have penises.. and even a stopped clock will tell the right time twice a day. But Giles Coren still a weaselly little creep.

Most decent people don't seem to need to rack our memories, in order to be 100% confident that we haven't been sexually harassing our colleagues...

On the MN thread linked to above his whole article is apparently pasted in at 21/10/2017 00:14. According to the pasted-in version, Coren writes that 'nobody told' Weinstein that what he was doing was wrong.. Hmm Shock

Coren tends to be misogynistic, minimising (unless it affects him) and to think he’s pretty clever. So I doubt he’ll miss the obvious opportunities to take the piss out of what he’d probably see as just a ludicrous PC terminology spat.
