  1. women/girls aren't worried about trans people in particular, they're worried about men
  2. not read the news about the massive increase in sex offences in mixed sex changing facilities at sports centres / "karen white" who sexually assaulted 4 female prisoners when locked in with them, then?

etc etc

pombear · 12/09/2018 19:51

Phew, thanks Zhora for sharing. We're all thrilled.

In other news:
What are your personal thoughts on this:

I am worried about XY people with a penis (as 80-plus percent of the people you mention have) in sex-segregated XX places. Sex segregation exists for reasons of safety, privacy or fairness.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:53

That article doesn;t make much sense tbh

"Conservatives have conversely tried to claim there are more than 100 incidents that they believe justify their rejection of transgender equality. Most of those incidents, however, were cisgender men violating women’s spaces — which is already illegal "

BUT if you say anyone can go anywhere based on their invisible feels then there is no mechanism by which women and girls can challenge men who are being creepy / intimidating / weird but just on the right side of the law.

Women and girls are USED to men being creepy and weird and scaring them but when you try to expplain what was wrong... it's hard to say. Did he touch you? No? What's the problem then?

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 19:53

There are absolutely no figures that can "debunk" the privacy, dignity and boundaries argument.

Plus if you make voyeurism and indecent exposure, sexual offences, non crimes when it relates to this particular group of males, that's what you will get. Similarly when you make it hate crime to call a male person a man.

Bullshit. Orwellian double speak. It's like when Cameron promised to make child poverty history. Just before his government stopped recording it. Well, he kept his promise! What more do you want?

Oh look, I can post a link too:

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:55

Men don't need to dress up to show they are trans.
Why is that article going on about dressing up?
You can't tell by looking at someone what their internal gender ID is.
Anyone who says they are a woman is a woman full stop.

Also it's all abotu USA - can we focus on the UK here please?
I don't follow USA news so closely what with living in London n all

MacaroonMama · 12/09/2018 19:55

It’s a self-declared op ed. Whereas the actual research?

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 19:56

The author is a misogynist, too.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 12/09/2018 19:57

... to add, by places I mean XX places such as hospital wards, prisons, rape crisis centres, refuges, psychiatric facilities, sports, toilets, changing rooms, all-women shortlists, women's Awards, training for women getting back into work, or training for leadership roles etc etc

pombear · 12/09/2018 19:58

ooh namechanged can I follow you and do the same, was just about to do so:
www.thetimes.co.uk/article/unisex-changing-rooms-put-women-in-danger-8lwbp8kgk

I honestly wonder whether these ploppers think women are so thick that we'll all just go 'oh, someone's done an article, we're all OK now'?'

Hint to OP - we have many other sources. But thanks for showing up. Smile

VickyEadie · 12/09/2018 20:03

"Lies"? No, I'm pretty sure all women who are very concerned about not wanting men in their spaces are telling the truth about it.

DereksSexyPyjamas · 12/09/2018 20:14

Hey, at least we’re not getting the: ‘Here’s an excellent article on why you’re all such horrible transphobes’ comments, where ‘excellent’ is code for ‘poorly researched bollox’. Thanks for letting us make our own minds up, OP. Smile

MindTheMinotaur · 12/09/2018 20:15

Article states: Whether the advent of transgender-inclusive restroom laws results in an increase in sexual assaults in restrooms on a population level is unknown at this time.

Haven't had time to read properly but Table 2 appears to show 19 events where men claimed to be trans or were dressed as women or claimed that new laws allowed them to be there. I didn't spot the methodological data around the review- e.g. search terms and source data. I will look later, I've only scanned. If it isn't there it shouldn't have been published.
