He tried to deadname a singer on X-factor

No he won't, he is a famous man. An apology at worst.

Onedayy · 09/09/2018 10:25

I’m surprised it was aired tbh.

TacoLover · 09/09/2018 10:30

Tbf I don't really see why he would need to ask his birth name... I can see why people would be annoyed about it. It has no relevance. Yes he was talking about how he was trans but there was no need to ask and I don't see why Robbie would want to know?

Juells · 09/09/2018 13:29

Yes, it's like asking someone who has a stage-name what their birth-name was, when they were on stage performing. TheWitch is right though - RW is male and famous, and the trans person is FiM, so it won't be a big deal. Probably not brave and stunning enough to warrant a twitter storm.

Maybe some people will think it was uneccesary for the contestant to bring up his sexuality in the first place.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2018 13:44

I watched that and all I could think was that the performer was there to be a Trans Man Perfomer and that Robbie Williams was genuinely interested and so asked...

... no great drama!

doedoe90303811 · 09/09/2018 13:48

Uh, it was clearly scripted to bring in the sob story timed to emotive music.

Apparently Felix's mum is a nurse but paid for a private transition? Not sure what that's about. twitter.com/NHSLGBT/status/1038533564298653697

The good news is Felix is now in a stunning, brave relationship with his new X-Factor-sourced girlfriend. Hurrah!

Hes a bloke, I doubt anything will be said. Definitely not the rape and death threats that a woman would get for the same.

BabySharkDoododoo · 09/09/2018 15:22

Haven't watched the X factor this year. Its more about sob stories than singing. Last year it seemed there was maybe 10 mins worth of singing and the rest was taken up by 'moving videos' about whatever sob story the contestant could think up, or whatever one they were given if they didn't have one.

Trans isn’t a sexuality!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/09/2018 15:26

I thougt this would be about using a surrogate!

How was the singing from the contestant, were they any good?

How old are they that their mum has paid for reassignment surgery?

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 09/09/2018 15:26

I agree. There was no need to ask Felix's birthname.

However, the whole thing about deadnaming is that it's traumatic to be reminded of your biological sex and it effectively 'outs' a person who believes they 'pass. If you are going to go on tv and talk about it then it's not a secret. RW (who I have no knowledge of nor interest in) might have clumsily been trying to show acceptance.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2018 16:17

He seemed to ask to give the contestant more time to talk about themselves, to explain, expand. The contestant seemed very happy to do so...

... and no, they weren't all that good. Then again I don't watch it any more* as I don't seem to ever hear what they all hear!

  • I caught about 10 minutes of it between 2 other programmes, was surprised at the protracted caterwauling.
KatVonSweet · 09/09/2018 19:39

Penis News covered the story but it didnt prompt much outrage because I think Robbie has a willy and as such can't be a t#rf and probably shouldn't be burnt.

It made me chortle that some dimwitted fool kept refering to Felix as Felixstowe...

"So tell me, why did you change your name to a shit container port? Was Dover too feminine?"

Beamur · 09/09/2018 19:42

Didn't watch it, but why did the contestant feel the need to tell everyone anyway?

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 10/09/2018 07:57

I don't watch it either, Beamur, but I have to say I wondered the same.

Destinysdaughter · 10/09/2018 08:09

I did watch it, they were a very average singer and tbh I don’t think they would have got through if they hadn’t said they were trans. We discussed this at the time on the Xfactor thread! They seemed quite happy to say what their female name was and if they hadn’t said they were trans I would have had no idea as they looked like a bloke!
