Report your own post and ask MN to edit the title for you

arranfan · 03/09/2018 09:02

2rebecca · 03/09/2018 09:03

Anyone hear this and can give a report?

I heard nic on LBC with Ian Dale yesterday talking about unisex changing rooms crime stats.
She is doing such sterling work at the moment with this media work and the fantastic campaign materials.

Listening now.
Julia Hartley-Brewer sums up the problem exactly right:
-that this is a "Conservative" policy
-Self-ID: anyone can say they are the opposite sex, for any reason, at any time, without any medical checks, etc.
-The impact on this on women and girls
-even sex offenders in prison can say they are women
-more unisex bathrooms/toilets/changing rooms in order to be more "inclusive"

JHB and Nic Williams say that it's absolutely obvious that women and girls are more at risk with mixed-sex rooms
She is very good at saying that it's about SEX

Nic said that they haven't thought about the women when they are proposing these changes, so that it's cheaper.
JHB said that it's about the trans activists.
"A man in a dress"
"Nobody has thought this through"
"Not representative of trans people"
"The government is playing along with the madness"
Smile

Gender neutral means mixed-sex.
Nic is pointing out the fact that women don't get any air time to explain our side of the argument and how it affects us.
Talks about the mobile phones, tiny cameras, voyeurism, etc.
JHB brings up the children, and that it's important to keep a female only space.
Already happening in schools - effects on teenage girls.
What can people do?
Consultation!

carceralfeminist · 03/09/2018 10:20

People in the REAL world are on side.
Other guests have been peak transed and ready to join FPFW, and they say it's uncomfortable for MEN also!
Twitter activism, and ignoring ordinary people is being brought up.

carceralfeminist · 03/09/2018 10:21

Massive thank you to Julia Hartley-Brewer and Dr Nic Williams Star Flowers
That was an excellent segment!!!

boatyardblues · 03/09/2018 10:30

arranfan · 03/09/2018 10:35

08:30-09:00 segment, about 7 mins in.

Thanks Arran. Will listen shortly.

WarmWishes · 03/09/2018 11:22

That was everything in my head on this matter summed up.

Hey MRA twitter - welcome to the real world. This is what the actual, real world think. The only reason the GRA will be reformed is because you've managed to do it by stealth and bullying. Not by convincing anyone.

boatyardblues · 03/09/2018 11:26

That was excellent. Well done Nic and JHB!

Stilettosandan0venglove · 03/09/2018 13:27

What a good interview! Thanks for the link.

howonearthdidwegethere · 03/09/2018 13:55

You were great, Nic!

thatdamnwoman · 03/09/2018 16:21

How wonderful to hear it all being discussed openly and without guilt. Really excellent. Now I want the BBC to offer something similar. ordinary people in the street still don't understand what self-ID will actually mean to them and their children and grandchildren. It's the BBC's duty to inform everyone.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 03/09/2018 17:00

So glad that women are getting a chance to speak on this, finally.

BettyDuMonde · 03/09/2018 17:04

Just listened - good stuff!

Do you think the end result of all this TRActivism will be local authorities/businesses/employers just going ‘fuck it’ and making everything mixed sex?

Nic touched on that here, but it wasn’t expanded on. I have a sinking feeling that faced with the difficulties of trying to police women only facilities they will simply be closed down (after all, you can’t be sued by trans woman who can’t use the ladies if there is no ladies to use...)

ChickenonaMug · 03/09/2018 17:20

A link to the visual version. It was a great interview. I was out this weekend for FairPlay and the changing room issue was one that most people seemed to raise as a concern of theirs.

Hello Woman's Hour. THIS is how you do it...

Stilettosandan0venglove · 03/09/2018 19:21

Good point! Come on BBC!
