Nice to see they've got their priorities straight sending police officers to all Mermaids meetings and investigating sticker woman whilst allowing sex offenders to roam our streets unchecked...

Blimey.

The inspection of its child protection highlighted "particular concern" with 98 overdue visits to sex offenders.
"This area requires real improvement before I can be confident Merseyside Police is meeting its duty to keep children safe," [the inspector] said.

But stickers stating biological facts will be investigated, because some people’s feelings are being hurt!

I know someone who works in this area of policing, although not in Merseyside, and they say it’s terrifying how understaffed they are and admits they can’t do the checks they should be doing as there isn’t anyone to do them. They more or less have to guess who is most likely to reoffend. So, unfortunately it’s not just Merseyside, it’s likely repeated throughout the UK thanks to the continued underfunding of the police service.

The typical response of individuals and groups under stress and trying to multitask is to prioritise the stakeholders shouting loudest. The skewed priorities in this case can't be that much of a surprise.

Unfortunately in the case of the police, ss etc the ones not shouting are the ones who really really need the help.

Blame the cut backs from the Home Office and Mrs May.

Not just this force that struggling.

It's an appalling waste of police time and the response to StickerWoman was a clear case of political posturing.

Is there any aspect of proper safeguarding and child protection that is actually working properly in this benighted country?

The service that ought to be monitoring men on the sex register are the Offender Management Service (used to be known as Probation Service).

Oh hang on....... I think that the Service has been privatised, cut and decimated.

I'm shocked, I tell you.

There was a thread about some police forces allowing easy removal of sex offenders from the register. Anyone remember? I'll have a look for it in a bit but not sure if FWR or a different topic.
