Homophobic attack against lesbians at Manchester Pride? **Thread title edited at OP's request**

On Sunday night on the stage in Sackville Gardens, during Manchester Pride, Tony Cooper joked about “dragging” the 8 women involved in the Get the L Out protest at London Pride “out by their saggy tits”.

He has confirmed this rant in the above tweet.

This is not only a misogynistic rant, which sadly is only an offence in Nottingham, but it as it was aimed singularly at lesbian women it is a homophobic hate speech.

He can't be a misogynist because he has a mother?

That's like Donald Trump saying he's not a racist because his chauffeur is black

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 13:56

LOL has he not considered that every misogynist who has ever lived had a mother?

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 30/08/2018 14:01

Its ok he's sorted it all out "it was not meant to be misogynistic and was definitely not meant to sound as though it was instigating violence towards women"

It just silly women misunderstanding a funny funny joke. About imagining performing violence against an easily identified group of women.

Keep digging sunshine.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 30/08/2018 14:07

Anthony. If you don't want people to think you are a misogynist, don't say misogynistic things. If you don't want people to think you are violent, don't say violent things. It's quite easy.

Has this been posted anywhere yet?

It’s beautiful and inspirational, for lesbian women and non-lesbian women alike.

Courage calls...

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 15:04

It's worth bearing in mind that top Mumsnet fan and friend of Harrop and the @TERFblocker account Hetty Spoon, on the Twitter thread where most people told Anthony what a misogynist he was, considered any criticism of his hilarious repartee actual hate speech against specific gender critical lesbian women "tone policing the gays". Probs literal violence in itself. Yet is gunning for Linda Bellos. Totally not hypocritical at all.

nauticant · 30/08/2018 15:23

That Spoon character is a complete waste of time on twitter. The posting looks more like a bot than by an actual person.

Thanks for that link Betty

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 15:29

I think it's a real woman. She was very exercised about men's unquestionable rights to threaten violence to lesbians and make degrading nasty comments about these women at their own event, on the supposed women's stage as a joke. Creating an intimidating and silencing atmosphere for lesbians who don't toe the party line. As apparently a lesbian herself. Sad really.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 15:30

Deary me, my grammar there! Blush

LadybirdsAreBirds · 30/08/2018 15:32

Betty

That is inspirational. Thanks for linking. Well done those lesbians!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 30/08/2018 15:40

What a sad, misogynistic, thick, arsehole he is. Although really I should have just stuck to calling him misogynistic as the rest is just tautological.

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 30/08/2018 15:48

"He can't be a misogynist because he has a mother"

Fantastic - no one can ever call feminists "man-hating" ever again, because every single one of us has a biological father.

placemats · 30/08/2018 15:53

^Fantastic indeed^

nauticant · 30/08/2018 16:05

I suppose that means there will only be a handful of people who can be misogynists because in their particular situations their mother now identifies as their father/not-mother. (And so was never their mother.)

How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, That has such people in ’t!

AnnieOnymous · 28/05/2025 02:28

i've noticed many male "queer" activists (commonly gay and bisexual men, sometimes trans identified but not always) use "trans rights" as an excuse to hate on women. their misogyny seems so pathological that i have to wonder if their nonheterosexual identity itself stems from thinking women are gross, like these are men who think girls have cooties and never grow out of that phase. i'm not saying this is common in gays but that it seems so in this pathological misogynist TRA type. controversial opinion i guess.

This is a very old thread. I am not covinced that it wouldn’t happen now though…

it definitely would. male queer activists haven't gotten any better, even when conservative male politicians are out to get them they focus their energy on hating women. unfortunately i encounter these kinds in lgbt communities still, the situation is godawful for lesbians currently.
