'Furries'

OK, seeing as everything is going 'pooof' this evening, just one more flag (sorry MNHQ but I think it's important that the connection is highlighted)

this person twitter.com/Feefers has a social media trail back to other activity this board may have concerns about right now.

Hopefully I've kep it so top-level it doesn't warrant a deletion?

Furries have been around for aaaages, they were one of the first subcultures I heard about when I first started mucking about on the internet because there's always been some crossover with sci-fi & fantasy fandoms. There's even a CSI Las Vegas episode about them.

Rough outline here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom

Back when I first heard about them they were relatively benign, kept to themselves, it was "just a kink", albeit one most people couldn't get their heads around. It's mostly a man thing and there's overlap with trans circles. My feeling over the years as a long-distance observer of general internet weirdness is that there are some troubles - as there have been in other cosplay groups - with harassment and non-commercial "play", and that's come to light more often recently. Whether that's because it's happening more, or just that more people are coming forward in the #metoo era, I don't know.

pombear · 25/08/2018 00:07

Silent follow the trail, regarding less benign influences.

Because we're not allowed currently to show the trail 'forwards' from things we may be concerned about right now, you'll have to follow the trail backwards.

Apropo of nothing, this twitter account is an interesting connection to the fragrant feefer - twitter.com/nekosune

And anyone making the very obvious connection after that last post may not wish to be too vocal about the links, once they've seen them, given the current likelihood for the thread to disappear as a result.

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2018 00:11

It's amazing how linked everything is when you start looking...

silentcrow · 25/08/2018 00:15

follow the trail, regarding less benign influences.

Oh, I'm not denying it - I suspect this is another subculture taken over by ideology, too, my post was just to add some historical context for anyone who hadn't come across it before. There certainly wasn't an overlap with the "adult baby" scene back then, for example, not publicly anyway. Brrr.

Howyoualldoworkme · 25/08/2018 00:23

When I was on Second Life there was a very active furry section. Highly sexualized but not infantilized.
This was before Twitter caught on so I guess they can cast the connections net further now

pachyderm · 25/08/2018 00:28

pombear this thread is being watched. Those tweets just went protected...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2018 00:38

Strange - I thought these people were proud of their identities...

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/08/2018 00:48

I came across something about the Bear scene on reddit the other day. I still don't know if it's a thing or not?

pombear · 25/08/2018 00:50

Waves to Katrina et al. I'm just amazed you didn't close down before lots of us could see the concerning connections.

As always, I'm usually all for 'living your life as you want, fur suit and all' but these connections were a little more concerning than usual, given the current context.

OP posts:
WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 25/08/2018 01:25

I daren't click on the link.

BettyFloop · 25/08/2018 02:37

It's amazing how linked everything is when you start looking...
They do not like us looking...

NotTerfNorCis · 25/08/2018 06:05

Yetch.

One thing I would say for the furries, they aren't yet forcing the rest of the world to accept their reality. Up to that point I'd say live and let live.

But there is a queasy crossover into another, darker area, which leaves me wondering if that what this is really about - at least for some of them. On the face of it there should be nothing sexual about pretending to be a baby animal. But... .

CaitlynsCat · 25/08/2018 06:30

"One thing I would say for the furries, they aren't yet forcing the rest of the world to accept their reality."

Right, but there is a progression from dressing up as a dog to dressing up as a woman, and then the latter MUST be accepted or you are an evil bigot. And it's a progression by the same people, it's just that they've worked out that by framing it as gender identity/human rights then they are totally protected.

Kyanite · 25/08/2018 07:05

Feef is inviting us to ask questions on Twitter - twitter.com/Feefers/status/1033119911944617984

Check out furry porn...it's really something else! Not for those of a sensitive disposition.

CaitlynsCat · 25/08/2018 07:14

Here's another link to nekosune, on Reddit.

old.reddit.com/user/nekosune

Note their posts to 'actuallesbians', which is a 'fuck you' to, er, actual lesbians.

They talk quite extensively about their autism.

I find the autism link to be VERY interesting. The likes of Lily Madigan have also stated that they are autistic, and have cited in defence of their lack of communication & social skills. All of which is perfectly understandable, but there is a definite pathway for these men who as furrys/bronies/geeky males are EXTREMELY socially marginal and unlikely to gain positions of influence.

However on 'coming out' as transgender they are suddenly deemed interesting, worthy of attention and even leaders. Very clearly these males with poor hygiene, poor social skills, and everything else were not about to gain such positions any time soon otherwise (of course there is the 'geek billionaire' archetype, but I suspect the actual company bosses, the Bill Gates etc. are rather seldom these types, but tend to have a bit more social nous at the point of negotiating the company ownership etc.).

So you have a total inversion of the normal order of society where these basically social pariahs are standing for deputy party leader, local councillor, etc. And they are TOTALLY unsuited to this.

Note that being transgender is very socially contagious

www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6091581/Teenagers-question-biological-gender-friends-transgender.html

Anyway, it's perfectly understandable that socially marginal males should want to transition to something more desirable, the issue is not with them, but the LGBT lobby which has created this nonsense whereby dressing up as a furry or a baby is 'yuk', but dressing up as a woman is super-ultra-peak human rights.

CaitlynsCat · 25/08/2018 07:16

sorry that nekosune is a moderator of 'actual lesbians'.

fuck you actual lesbians,

love nekosune.

CaitlynsCat · 25/08/2018 07:24

oh, they are ALL fucking men.

moderator list:

  • LIATG 22 y/o white trans lesbian
  • nekosune - man
  • goshfeckingdarnit - also appears to be a man
  • Freya-freed - also a man
  • mollymollykelkel - not sure if trans, but dating one of the trans mods
SleepFreeZone · 25/08/2018 07:27

CaitlynsCat fuck, your post is spot on.

bitheby · 25/08/2018 09:09

Um, as a recently diagnosed autistic woman I'm not liking the assumption that autism = social pariah/ unwashed.

That's deeply offensive.

I know you're all trying to make a point but there's a lot of sweeping statements going on.

CaitlynsCat · 25/08/2018 09:43

We are talking about autistic MEN though. This is NOTHING to do with women.

And I wasn't suggesting that all autistic people are social pariahs or unwashed, however a very large number of autistic men (at least - this discussion is not at all about women) ARE social pariahs with poor hygiene.

This is well documented:

Tara Hewitt is somewhere between furry and outright otherkin.
"You can't argue with me because I am a soft and gentle kitten".

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/08/2018 10:23

Being the human you were born is just so bloody booooring.

I can't see these being 'things' in developing countries/was zones/areas of natural disasters where people are concentraring on trying to feed their families and survive.

FeminaSum · 25/08/2018 10:28

I once got into an argument with a threatening Twitter TRA. Looked at his page and it was full of cartoon drawings of extremely large/fat animals wearing nappies. Really creeped me out.

Before that I'd assumed 'furries' were harmless people with a kink who just liked to meet up and put on animal costumes.

LGBT lobby which has created this nonsense whereby dressing up as a furry or a baby is 'yuk', but dressing up as a woman is super-ultra-peak human rights.

This! It's so illogical. Because a man saying 'I'm really a woman' has exactly as much basis in reality as 'I'm really a baby' or 'I'm really a wolf.' Nobody would take the latter two remotely seriously, but disagreeing with the first makes you an evil bigot. It makes no sense.

bitheby · 25/08/2018 10:48

This is well documented

Ah well, if it says it on the internet it must be true.

I know what you're trying to do - create a case for these scary, smelly predators marauding around with SEN but have some sensitivity. Even male aspies have feelings Hmm
