What a neutral word between sex worker and prostitute? Is there one?

OP posts:

placemats I am not saying anything about the sex in relation to what people normally might do sexually.

Maybe it is more accurate to say they are selling access to their bodies?

I am not making any judgement here, the OP said ' neutral'.

I am very anti-prostitution.

The thing about using the word pay is that quite often the women don't get paid, there is a man somewhere who gets paid.

I don't know if this has already been suggested or not..

Service provider

That seems fairly neutral.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 23/08/2018 09:40

If she just says service providers no one will know what she is talking about.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 23/08/2018 09:42

It all depends who your audience is. Stuart message you want to convey. What their starting point is.

There is a good reason that there is no generally agreed term - because it's not a neutral "job". Plus highly political.

sociopathsunited · 23/08/2018 11:57

Nothing

Exactly. I don't think there IS a neutral term. What real term you use will depend on which side of the line you are on. I don't think there's a mid point that also allows a full understanding of what is going on (as that understanding varies, depending on perspective).

Sex workers are pimps and traffickers while the people they sell are prostituted women and children.

FreezerBird · 23/08/2018 23:09

Prostituted women

or

Women exploited in prostitution

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 24/08/2018 14:28

Another vote here for "prostituted women/ children".

"Men who pay to rape women"

piearesquared · 24/08/2018 14:35

I don’t like the tern sex worker as it is imprecise-it could mean cam girls, lap dancer stripper (or as abolitionists like to say pimps or managers).
There was a long thread on SAAFE (a forum where prostitutes talk about things of concern to them) here a while back where prostitutes discussed whether “prostitute” was stigmatizing-some thought it was others embraced the term .

The tem that prostitutes reject is “prostituted women” as that denies them agency and is used by abolitionists and radical feminists opposed to prostitution.

I think it’s best to stick with prostitutes and prostitution-as it says what it is.

Men who pay to rape women are rapists. The exchange of money has nothing to do with it.
