googled “UK womens earnings” on google - no typos - and it suggested I’d meant womens earrings and brought up pictures of women wearing lots of bling!

Scrolled down and there were articles on the gender pay gap etc below the pics.

FFS. Google’s algorithm.

Try searching for Gender Pay Gap. Will get you most of what you're after, and there's some eyeopening stuff 😫

It did suggest i put an apostrophe in womens

I feel very judged

Try searching images for "secretary" - vile sexism. Google should be taken to the International Court of Human Rights along with FB / Twitter for their discriminatory practices against women - now there's an idea...

It's the algorithm's predictions based on web content. Given the web is full of sexist claptrap, Google's search results are too. Unsurprisingly, AI trained on the internet is racist as all get out too. It's a known problem and to be fair Google are (marginally) better than most at dealing with it - or at least acknowledging there is a problem.

Exactly - all depends what's trending....

Remember when they "improved" their search algorithm for paying customers? This is the result.
