Labour councillor quits in row over facilities for trans people - The Times

Anne Sinnot, Labour councillor (Cambridge) has resigned.

"Ann Sinnott stood down from Cambridge council claiming that the authority was treating women with contempt and was acting in “dereliction of the law”. She said a policy that resulted in single-sex facilities, such as toilets or changing rooms, being “abolished at a stroke” was undermining women’s rights and was a breach of the equality act."

I don't have a clicky link or share token. Hopefully someone else will add?

TRA HQ instructions for today:

"Right, we're on damage limitation mode today. Go to Mumsnet and tell them that there's nothing to see and that they shouldn't be talking about issues that affects them. They are women so they will listen to you. For God's sake don't mention Bradley. Particularly on the Bradley threads".

TransplantsArePlants · 31/07/2018 10:13

I am pretty sure Ann will forgive us our mistakes. It's not literal violence or anything

TransplantsArePlants · 31/07/2018 10:14

Popchyk

Yes. "Throw in a few adolescent lols for good measure!"

groundcontroltomontydon · 31/07/2018 10:15

How and why have councils come to be acting unlawfully with regard to the protected characteristic of sex
The ease with which the rule of law is being subverted is deeply concerning

LemonJello · 31/07/2018 10:17

Spot on Popchyk Grin

Wanna talk about Bradley, SarahAr?

Bumbungo · 31/07/2018 10:25

Cheers for Ann indeed!

There is plenty to see here, which is why women are saying "No!" What we women see is our rights and protections being supplanted by males. We are not accepting that.

Well said Jacky.

I know you don't care about women Sarah but we are not shutting up. Ever. So stick that in your pipe.

Bowlofbabelfish · 31/07/2018 10:27

Any comment on how to have a piss safely with a baby in a pram in these brave new unisex bogs sarahAr?

Or what you’d say to a Muslim woman unable to use the facilities at all?

JackyHolyoake · 31/07/2018 10:30

The impact on girls and women is huge and all for the sake of men's sexual rights, the right to express themselves sexually in public in any way they choose. We women say "No!" to these men forcing their fetishes and kinks on us against our consent.

Ereshkigal · 31/07/2018 10:36

Move on; nothing to see here.

No thanks, I don't think I will!

BiologyIsReal · 31/07/2018 10:39

That is a perfect illustration of why, if new self ID legislation is passed, while at the same time maintaining the fiction of sex being protected, it will be impossible to police safe spaces for women.

Any man will be able to claim he is a woman (whether trans or not) and no one will be able to protest or take action against it. Why? Because the Government's plan as it seems from their latest statements is to treat people as the gender they identify. So, identify as a woman and no one can do anything about it.

I can't decide what is driving this political agenda - a lot of stupidity on the part of thick politicians, a misplaced sense of wanting to be seen to be compassionate to trans gender people, a desire to be woke, or a backlash against the precious and necessary rights won by women over the last century. There could be other more sinister motives, but I am not proposing we get out the tinfoil hats just yet.
I tend to the cock-up theory of history rather than the conspiracy theory, but am beginning to wonder if I am being over naive.....

Ereshkigal · 31/07/2018 10:40

As you can see from any comments on these types of articles, obvious males invading women's spaces isn't popular. It isn't common now, whatever you say. That's because of the unwritten social contract which means a male accessing a female space is likely to be challenged. We don't want that weakened. Women in the majority don't want obvious males in women's spaces. Keep out.

happydappy2 · 31/07/2018 10:41

Congratulations to Anne. But the fact remains that the council are still prioritising gender identity over biological sex....what can be done to force them to address this more quickly?
Also I can't get Anne on twitter-know someone posted her link-anyone else having problems?

Ereshkigal · 31/07/2018 10:41

I think a bit of a perfect storm of all these.

@AnnMSinnott

happydappy2 · 31/07/2018 10:50

thanks Jacky-thats working

Knicknackpaddyflak · 31/07/2018 10:54

Move on, nothing to see here

By which you demonstrate clearly that you have no care or regard whatsoever for women's feelings, privacy or women being intimidated in their own spaces, because in your mind, people with penises are far, far more valid and important. Women having those feelings in your opinion is women misbehaving. Hence the 'shut up shut up shut up I've told you to shut up' posts over and over and over again.

The 17th Century are calling, they have some firelighters and scolds bridles if you want them.

Bloody well done Ann. Flowers Councils are not acting with the law and they are throwing women under the bus to favour men. There is no way to make it look enlightened or right.

Biology, there's a lot of money behind it. GLAAD paid £14K to fly Dawn Butler (Shadow Women and Equalities Minister) out to LA for the GLAAD awards. For 9 days.

I don't think they did that because they thought Dawn deserved a break.

They did it to get leverage over her. And she was happy to take the trade. She has recently become very vocal in her views.

I think there is a lot more money changing hands behind the scenes. I think that certain pro-trans "allies" on social media are reaping financial rewards for it or are being promised jobs/business opportunities in the future. I think "positive" tweets are being rewarded financially. The lower ranking TRAs have a link to Paypal on their Twitter accounts which incentivises them to whip up moral outrage. The higher ranking ones do deals behind the scenes. Lots of companies being set up to receive government grants and private funding. Jess Bradley has been/still is director of a number of companies.

I also think certain newspapers are being financially encouraged to run positive trans stories and bury negative ones.

speakingwoman · 31/07/2018 11:02

Bespin, Sarahar, I think you have to try to see it from a woman's p.o.v.

NeegansWife · 31/07/2018 11:08

Okay, so I work in Cambridge, what do I do/say if I find myself in this situation in a public toilet?!?

Tryingtolisten2 · 31/07/2018 11:09

Just to clarify really happy Ann Sinnott will not be representing my constituency any more. Can vote Labour with a clear conscience again now.

Ereshkigal · 31/07/2018 11:15

Yes we heard you the first time. Not much listening from you though.

EntropicTupperwareDrawer · 31/07/2018 11:21

we got that, tryingtolisten .(maybe time for a name change now? as it looks like you’ve abandoned that plan).

There’s is plenty to see here. It’s why visits to this board have increased so much in the last two years. Women want to discuss it, and none of us are shutting up any time soon.

SmellyHead · 31/07/2018 11:34

Move on; nothing to see here.

The arrogance!

LangCleg · 31/07/2018 11:35

Ann Sinnott will not be representing my constituency any more.

She wasn't representing your constituency, dear. She wasn't representing any constituency. She was representing the Petersfield ward in Cambridge for the district council.

Did you think she was an MP?
