Correcting gender to sex on forms - do you ever get any feedback?

Now that I'm getting annoyed by this when I see it I keep watching to change it but I'm a big chicken. Blush

Does anyone ever say anything or give you the Hmm face? Just worried about being accosted for form defacing.

I take great pleasure in doing this and explaining the difference between sex and gender. Just don't mention the T word.

IAmLurkacus · 16/07/2018 09:09

Never had any feedback and I’ve been doing it a while, some of the student questionnaires DD has been filling in for psychology at uni have started requesting ‘Biological sex’ Smile

CreakyAuldYin · 16/07/2018 09:14

Cheers. Smile

The last one was youngest DC's nursery form from the council ffs. I chickened though, as I was scared of getting a telling off from the grumpy school secretary.

Nobody has ever said anything. I usually scrawl 'sex=male/female, gender=masculine/feminine" next to it. And if it's an official form try to follow up with a request to change the wording. Never had a reply.

Dragoncake · 16/07/2018 09:19

With official stuff it's worth contacting the council or government department. Usually the secretary or person who receives the form isn't in a position to do anything about it.

I would if they were paper, but nearly everything is online now so it's not possible.

CreakyAuldYin · 16/07/2018 09:27

Yes a lot of online ones with no option to comment, but I've had a few paper ones too.

I'll need to get a bit brave and challenge the next one....

Did it today on a form for a health rebate claim. I included a brief definition of sex and gender to help them understand. Dimwits.
But I’m a bit bolshy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes

Tick other and/or rant away in the comments box, any comments box.

MaterialReality · 16/07/2018 09:44

With the online forms, I've started choosing 'other' as it usually gives you a box to write in your answer and I can write 'Sex = Female' or an explanation of why gender is the wrong word to use, depending on character limit.

I always alter paper ones and have never had any comments about it.

Hefzi · 16/07/2018 09:49

With paper forms, I ring the Council or NHS trust about it every time (because I'm a pain like that, and those are mostly the suppliers of the paper forms I receive): the response is always something along the lines of "you aren't the first person to raises this" (with/without groan). It hasn't had any effect yet though Angry

BadassUnicorn · 16/07/2018 12:17

Been thinking of doing this too. Tired of all the political correctness around everyone, at the expense of women Hmm

To those that give an explanation, how do you word it, so it's concise but accurate?

Waddlelikeapenguin · 16/07/2018 15:27

For online ones I complete while gritting my teeth then email the complaints department... vivobarefoot were particularly confused Grin

sexnotgender · 16/07/2018 15:29

I changed all the customer output forms in my last role to say sex instead of gender Smile

ShotsFired · 16/07/2018 15:36

I did contact the creator of a survey and ask why they were asking for gender, and whether they actually meant sex.

The reply back was that they definitely meant gender and they wanted it for "demographic statistics" Confused wtf stats will they get from everyone noting down their feelz?

It was a undergraduate survey about my opinion on something that wasn't sex or gender specific at all.

CreakyAuldYin · 16/07/2018 16:19

Love it @sexnotgender 😄

I don't really have anything I can do like that at my work, but I'm sure gender feelz nonsense may come our way. There was a recent 'inclusivity day' or something at the head office and I saw in the intranet video that they had Philip/Pippa Bunce as a guest speaker. 😏 (Looked like Pippa that day 🙄)
