Why Cis not trans??

So transwomen suggest women should call ourselves cis women yet they dont want to be called a trans woman. Thats hyprocrotical isnt it? Clearly they see a need for us and them to be seperated...since it's they who thought up "cis". So why not instead just use trans?

Agree there is no need for it. I'm sure most people just translate it as 'real' anyway.

Exactly.

Hideandgo How about if I identify as 'Hideandgo' and you can be cis-Hideandgo so people won't be confused?

Grin love it!

I agree with Widow. It rarely needs to be used but occasionally is needed to differentiate. No big insult.

Trans woman can be used to differentiate. No big insult.

I agree. MumsNet should treat both groups equally ie both groups should simply be termed "Women"

But snappity I thought we’d established that humans cannot change sex? So why would transwomen be women?

Cis has a very specific meaning in stereochemistry.
Cis and trans have very specific meanings in genetics to denote the distance/mechanism of action of a promoter element on the gene it acts upon.

Cis should not be used as a prefix to describe women. Woman is the baseline/core/origins definition anyway - it needs no classifier.

The word ‘women’ is just grand as it is. It means adult human females, of the sex that bears live young and produces ova. Nice and clear and unambiguous

Snappity - dogs have no concept of marriage but they can tell men from women.

We already differentiate women and girls to indicate maturity. Men and boys, the same.
Genderist believers need to spend a little time developing terms for the categories they wish to fill, whatever they may be, rather than appropriating the terms already in use for fully occupied human categories.
Transhuman, perhaps. I understand that category is still speculative and quite empty.
