Some opinions are inconsistent with employment

A thread to highlight the extreme tactics of some TRAs.

Here, a TRA tries to get an academic sacked for her views:

'Some opinions are inconsistent with employment in some capacities.'

I would say that the ability to think critically, not be swayed by dogma and produce an internally logically consistent argument is pretty fucking critical For being employed as an academic.

Four hundred years ago these people would have been enthusiastically denouncing witches. Don’t let the bastards grind you down Dr. Stock ...

bigoldscaredycat · 12/07/2018 13:51

I saw this and was infuriated. These people are not well, are they?

NotTerfNorCis · 12/07/2018 13:52

It takes a lot of courage to say what 82% think these days. Well done Kathleen Stock.

'Some opinions are inconsistent with employment in some capacities.'

So yet again, they think it's a-okey to discriminate based on thoughts in your head, but not on physical bodies (ie, it's wrong to suggest that having a male body is incompatible with being hired to run a women's refuge).

FloralBunting · 12/07/2018 13:59

It's inconsistent with employment as a respected academic for a woman to espouse opinions for which misogynists have contempt.
Sure, she is free to hold those opinions, but if she must, and also needs employment, she should consider working as a cleaner, or maybe a carer in an old people's home where she can be more easily disregarded.

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2018 18:41

I saw this and was infuriated. These people are not well, are they?

That's the elephant in the room.

Imnobody4 · 12/07/2018 18:59

This from a writer is a disgrace.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/07/2018 20:08

It's been pointed out that one of the signs left outside her office read 'support your sisters, not your cisters'. They left out the just. Freudian slip perhaps.

Also, 'cisters' is an ugly word. How come we get cisters and they get sisters? Confused

Not, there’s a move to frame males who ID as women as just women and actual women as ciswomen. I’ve seen banners saying this at various marches. We will end up losing the word completely if this continues. We will no longer be women but ciswomen.

This statement stunned me so much I was about to make a new thread with exactly the same title.

For anyone who opens this, reads this, and thinks 'well that's just academia fucking around'.

The same activists are out for 'people in employment in political roles', and 'people in employment in the NHS', and just...well, WOMEN in employment who hold views that don't centre the trans-ideology in their thinking (note there are few men who are singled out for this treatment') full stop.

For anyone who thought the 1984 references to the slogan on London's walls last night was a bit extreme. See this, hear this.

And if it's not your views on trans that would come into question. 'You're OK, you're 'trans-inclusive''.

Think ahead. What's next on the agenda? What else will you not be able to say? When will they come for you?

(This is not scaremongering - scaremongering is when something's not happening. Right now, in this country, people are being told that academic women should not be in employment if they belive that male-bodied people are women.)

pombear · 12/07/2018 21:41

if they dont* believe male-bodied people are women!

Of course, if they accept the penis as male, they're good. You can stay in your job!

pombear · 12/07/2018 21:42

Oh FFS, my bias is showing, I accept the penis as male.

Once more, for effect:

"people are being told that academic women should not be in employment if they believe that male-bodied people are male.

(It's the heat, warping my brain!)

thebewilderness · 12/07/2018 21:57

MRAs have always considered opinions held by women to be inconsistent with employment unless it was unpaid, of course.
