Story here

Obviously there is some way to go regarding sex equality (and other human rights issues)in Saudi Arabia, but I'm a "taking the good news where I can find it" sort of mood today Smile.

So hurrah for this step in the right direction!

This was an interesting read: theconversation.com/the-real-reason-saudi-arabia-lifted-its-ban-on-women-driving-economic-necessity-97267.

TL:DR version - SA needs women in its workforce and the lack of other viable transport alternatives mean they’ve had to relax the driving ban. Still, it’s still a stepin the right direction.

A small step but a good one.

Now to get rid of the guardianship system that treats women like prisoners.

And also to free all of the women activists that they have jailed without any just cause

TooTrueToBeGood · 25/06/2018 18:28

I'll bet if a woman has a car accident with a male driving the other car she will always be at fault.

I wonder how many men will be getting favours tonight because they allowed the women to drive.

MillyTheKid · 25/06/2018 18:42

They were saying on the BBC yesterday that some of the women who fought against the driving ban are still in prison though.

littlbrowndog · 25/06/2018 18:52

Yeah I heard that on radio as well- in jail

Ffs for just wanting to be able to drive a car

What next will them pesky women want

Some progress in the right direction. Very pleased for those women who may experience a little freedom due to this.
