Spotting the 'cloaked' posters

Having been reading FWR for a while now, watching the interactions between regulars, newbies and the various visitors, I thought I'd bring up the fact that us lurkers can quite clearly see what is going on.
You have your stalwart feminists. Articulate, clever and often extremely funny. I don't agree with all of them by any means, but I always give them a fair reading, because they just impress with their engagement and critical thinking.
Then you get the regular antagonists. Ploppers, and sealions and seagulls and all manner of loosey goosey "I do have a point in amongst all this verbiage" tightrope walkers.
But the ones I think think they are being really clever are the ones who are attempting to do, what I think bewilderness referred to as 'rat-fucking'. I say they think they are being clever and undercover, but they are so blinking outrageous they might as well be wearing a neon sign that says "I'm just here for the screenshots".
Just pointing out to those of you in the trenches that us lurkers can distinguish the genuine, heartfelt gender critical position from the hyper-loon transphobic approximation of the position a mile off.

In case you were wondering if the cunning 'cloaking device' was effective. It's not.

Yup, and they're always called "Tiffany", not some sensible name, or some really witty username (I am in absolute awe of some of the fantastic usernames on here).

Popchyk · 17/06/2018 22:18

You never see a Brenda do you? Or Joyce?

Which would be more age-appropriate for a lot of them.

Bi11yOneMate · 17/06/2018 22:22

Oh I dunno. The only Brenda and Joyce's I know are about 80. Tiffany s tend to be about 40-50.
I want to know about the Fae stuff

Popchyk · 17/06/2018 22:24

What Fae stuff?

Bi11yOneMate · 17/06/2018 22:25

Loads of transgender people seem to have Fae as s surname or part of a name.

FermatsTheorem · 17/06/2018 22:27

It's almost a quick test to distinguish between old-fashioned transexuals, who choose sensible names like Miranda and Helen (waves to Miranda and Helen if they're around - I know they've both posted on MN in the past), and those of the type we are not allowed to generalise about (but about whom Miranda wrote a very insightful blog), who choose names like Tiffany.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 17/06/2018 22:30

Is it, like, fey?

Stilettosandan0venglove · 17/06/2018 22:37

I love the name Miranda.

"O brave new world / That has such people in't!"

Furx · 17/06/2018 22:43

I’d be fascinated to see if any studies have been done on name selection.

I know a couple of transmen, both of whom chose names that are - well Not the right generation for them. I’d expect a Dave or an Andy given their ages and they have chosen the equivalent of Noah and Elijah. One of them almost passes, and it was the unusual name kind of gave the game away.

I’d love to know what drives name selection.

flowersonthepiano · 17/06/2018 22:47

I am from Wigan. And I am genuine, honest. Tiffany would sound shit with a Wigan anyway 'Owur Tiffuneh' Grin

Yambabe · 17/06/2018 22:47

and their paypal popchyk

flowersonthepiano · 17/06/2018 22:48

Wigan accent

FermatsTheorem · 17/06/2018 22:52

flowers you have transported me back to my schooldays in (insert northern town here) where one of the girls did have a name which was pretty much the equivalent of "Tiffuneh", only coupled to a really prosaic northern surname (think along the lines of "Higginbottom").

"Aye, y'know, the oldest Higginbottom lass. Owur Tiffuneh."

flowersonthepiano · 17/06/2018 22:54

Fermats GrinGrinGrin

Waddlelikeapenguin · 17/06/2018 23:21

But not before they've linked to their blog. Grin
I tend to read threads on catch up (partly because I cant bring myself to post until i have read the whole thing Hmm ) & I can really see the nonsense pattern then. When i am there in real time I notice but feel much less sure.
Nice thread OP Smile

I assume Fey = fairy because if you believe in faries then you can believe in any old twaddle...

Pratchet · 17/06/2018 23:29

All the lurkers #winning tonight! Great thread Grin

moimichme · 17/06/2018 23:41

Maybe they're fans of The Lord of the Rings...?

My ex's new name is Verity, a.k.a. Truth, because I guess the first 35 years of life was all a lie. Hmm

LaSqrrl · 18/06/2018 00:03

Hopefully I am not seen as any kind of stooge, even though still fairly new around these parts.

There is one particular rat-fucker here, and I suspect I know who she is IRL too. Does it for her own amusement. I just skip her posts (and so sad that it is a 'her' too).

No such thing as an 'unpeaker', as someone mentioned above, once you have seen it, you can never unsee it.
