Uber to allow sexual assault victims to sue company

Good progress that will now allow victims of sexual assault and harassment by Uber drivers and riders to file allegations in court instead of forcing them to keep them secret via arbitration. It seems to just be in the US so not sure how this would affect the UK

They also still haven't agreed to allowing class action cases to go public though.

Apparently they are also now doing criminal background check on their drivers in the US. Does anyone know whether this means that UK Uber drivers are not DBS checked?

In the uk I think it depends on what each local authority has decided re the legislation on taxis and how it applies to Uber. We don’t have Uber in my LA as the LA decided that all the rules regarding PH were to apply to Uber therefore they don’t have an advantage over the local taxi firms.

I very much doubt that in UK law Uber could enforce any contract term which purported to be binding that a passenger could not use court proceedings.
